Thank you from Australia!

I just want to say thank you for letting us compete this year. Ever since I was a kid we, like other families, always celebrated Eurovision. Even now as an adult, hosting my own Eurovision Parties there was always a bit of "I wish we could compete". And this year we got our wish. It was strange hearing our country mentioned but it was wonderful to be a part of it after so many years of watching it. It was great to be involved and reading the comments here and on Twitter it great to see everyone happy to have us. So thanks guys for having us! A special shoutout to Sweden and Austria. Thanks for the 12 points. We are Mates now. That's how it works. You guys can crash on my couch anytime!

Hey mate, happy to send you our 12, thanks for sending a 12 right back! Really hope you're allowed to compete in the future, the more the merrier I say :)

Australia has a thing for Sweden and Eurovision. Our country was obsessed with ABBA.

24
Xararar•

Abba was awesome, lets be fair :)

QuarterSooner•

As a Brit, it was great to have you in it! I was sorely hoping it'd be stormed and hosted in Australia, just for a change. Great song too.

(Though... Nil points? I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL, GUYS.)

williamthebloody1880•

It would have been hosted somewhere in Europe of Australia's choosing

18
HawkUK•

Which, if you look at how they voted, probably wouldn't have been here...

2
williamthebloody1880•

I actually think it might have been. How they voted =/= how willing they would be to let us host on their behalf.

I have a friend from Australia who was watching live and posting on FB about it. She said she didn't like our song. That's why we didn't get votes from them.

I believe their starting point would have been who was willing to host on their behalf. Not the vote.

kam0706•

Yah. Your song was woeful. Sorry.

5
SquirrelChieftain•

Televotes from Aus had the UK in 9th. The Australian jury were less kind...

17
ACSquiggle•

Only two of the jury members were particularly unkind ...

pigslovebacon•

Bloody Richard Wilkins.

Send a better song next time, uk comrade!

Your song was so awesome, voted for it. Would've probably voted anyway since I love Australia, but the song was like top 3 this evening. Shame you guys can't stay for a few more years, love how you passionately support the show. Oh well, maybe one year. Cheers Mate!

As an Australian I second this post

16
Reggicide•

Also as an Australian I second this. I have no European blood in me but I have been obsessed with Eurovision for the past decade that I've been watching it. Absolutely love it! And it was blast participating. This feels like one more step towards Lena's dream of a globalvision, which I would love to see.

11
TheSaoshyant•

As a Australian I second this, as well

existie•

I'm super proud of you guys! Good job.

Love,

American that can't participate at all, and got to live vicariously through you guys for a night. <3

16
SquirrelChieftain•

Maybe we should set up Pacificvision ;)

18
universalbunny•

Please and thanks! It was because of Australians in tumblr that I got into Eurovision, so thanks and great job in this year's ESC! :)

3
SquirrelChieftain•

Norway can join if they sail in on Viking ships ;) and bring some tasty mead

3
paladisious•

And that is how we go full circle.

Yeeeeeees.

I was thinking last night of what we would call ours if we had one, and Pacificvision works pretty well, since it includes so much more than just, like, the US (which would be terrible).

3
SquirrelChieftain•

Yeah then we could have countries from the America's, Asia and Oceania! I'd love to see countries like South Korea and Japan. I've seen some K-Pop on TV and I think it would fit into something like this perfectly. And we could have the US, Canada, Aus and NZ competing! The UK would want in then hahaha

2
existie•

Agreed! It'd be fun! :)

1
javixu1984•

I really hope you guys carry on participating! :D It felt great to have a guest country!!! Plus, Guy did amazing and the song was brilliant. He definitely had the best vocals of the night!

13
fou-lu•

Absolutely echo this.

12
Faxxi•

I'm so happy that the one time we get to have you in the competition, you really rock. I believe many want for you to return (maybe for the 70 years' celebration?).

10
Revgos•

I really would love to see Australia every year. You guys were amazing

💜 from Turkey

10
Source_AustralianOP•

:) I had some Turks at my Eurovision party. They didn't bring iskendar ;(

6
Revgos•

AHAHAHAH aww i would've ! :D

2
merisu•

Did they at least bring rakı?

iambrogue•

As an Aussie living in the UK last night was a big deal for me. Living in the right time zone and watching guy Sebastian was a huge thing. Thanks Eurovision for hosting us!!

Carnifex•

Saw so many Australians in Vienna, all partying hard. It was awesome to have an even more international crowd this year. Although I always have seen a few aussies around in the previous years when I visited. I really don't care much about the songs, but the crowds from all over the world, celebrating in the host countries without any animosities lways give me some hope for humanity.

HainActivity•

Can someone please explain to me who was the australian lady who presented the scoring from Australia?

7
PigsOnMyKnees•

Just our patron saint of badassery Lee Lin Chin.

31
pigslovebacon•

She was pretty cool when she was just the news presenter with the creative outfits, but she went to next level awesomeness after The Feed started having her on.

7
MASSsentinel•

Ugh, those skits were amazing. The thing I'll never forget learning from them is that all food is just different ratios of fish fingers and salt.

4
Airresistance•

Holy shit, that was so funny and awesome! So cool that they got that many news reporters together!

2
HainActivity•

thx

1
kyrgyzzephyr•

News presenter for SBS (the station which airs Eurovision), well known for her collection of outfits.

23
FromPaul•

I will never not upvote that link

thx 2

lwli3t•

you deserved it. somhow it made me happy you guys could finally participate, after i heard for so many years that you have a big esc fan community

6
clomclom•

I agree totally too (also from Australia). There was a bit of hate against us joining, so it was so great to see us welcomed into the show, evidently by being in the top 5!!

6
ACSquiggle•

Was great to have you Australia, although ... If you could forward on the address of your Jury Member B & E, that'd be great ... :p

5
ZoboCamel•

Jury Member B was Richard Wilkins. Have him if you want, he's a bit of a twat.

12
angrytwerker•

Ah, classic Australian understatement. Don't be fooled. A "bit of a twat" actually means he's a "massive cunt."

11
MicSta•

how the fuck did he even become a jury member, he's so irrelevant to music it's not funny. His band was also shitty, and that was decades ago.

6
SquirrelChieftain•

Yeah please get them. No idea why our jury thought Russia's entry was the best.

8
MicSta•

they clearly didn't want a shitfront 2.0 from Vlad.

10
ThatGavinFellow•

Would love to see Australia return, or at least every year a non-European country be given a wildcard spot.
