Pat Roberson is a dick.
Well, I suppose that's technically true even if it is statistically improbable.
I was surprised when he said "it's not God, it's people" when someone dies from a mistake.
You know it's bad when I'd opt for watching Keeping up with the Kardashians instead of listening to this hateful, hypocritical windbag.
"Oh, I don't think the baby could be Hitler, he's hosting the 700 Club."
I feel so bad for the little old ladies who religiously donate to the 700 club and feel like they're getting saved.
Mocking Pat Robertson was fun 20 years ago, but now I feel as though I'd be making fun of a senile old man.
Was he always this kooky though? He may actually be dealing with dementia.
To be fair, it's hard to say anything to a grieving mother that isn't stupid. Some tragedies crush our feeble efforts to make sense of them.
Robertson's problem may come partially from a tradition that says that Christianity is about having answers to all the questions. Without that, maybe he would have been able to say, "Your sorrow is greater than my wisdom. I don't know what to say. I can give you love, and prayers, but not clever words."
To be fair, it's hard to say anything to a grieving mother that isn't stupid.
"Geeze, I'm sorry"? "It's terrible when the parent outlives the child"? really, pretty much anything other than "Boy, it's a really good thing you didn't spawn a second Hitler! We just dodged that bullet!"
Its sad, i used to watch him a lot and enjoyed it the majority of the time but i think hes gotten too old to think logically anymore . I think he just talks out his ass a lot just to fill tv time. This will come back to bite him.
Can we all just agree that this guy is a hugely objectionable and insufferable person, and stop giving him the attention he craves? I'm sure every time he sees a backlash against him, it only reinforces his personal view of the evils of this world swaying people against holiness, due to their hatred of god... and probably something about anti-Christian persecution.
He kind of reminds me of that crazy uncle who always sits at the dinner table and says things that are completely nonsensical, but you kind of nod and play along because if you do anything else he'll just accuse you of colluding with the illuminati.
I second this. Thank you.
If he didn't still have a massive following, perhaps. Unfortunately, this person is still influential among many Christians, and while that influence is still waning, he is still very much one of the "faces" of Christianity in the U.S.
I think it's helpful to put out a reminder every once in a while of what's being said in all our names. Besides, it's not like this sureddit is CNN or anything.
He's 85. The odds of developing Alzheimers are 50% by age 85.
