After discovering every building recipe in one play session the UI lags like a sweaty overweight hippo in gym class

Most of the players in our clan still have the severe memory leak problem. Open enough containers or open your inventory a lot and you have to completely close H1Z1 and log back in to get rid of it.

We know there are remaining issues with memory usage (and we continue to find and fix them), and every once in a while I like to remind folks that we actually can use 4-5GB of RAM (or more) under completely normal circumstances (that's why we use a 64-bit EXE) if you have it.

We cache files for things around you in the world to prevent hitches from loading later. At last check, if we were to cache the entire world in RAM (uncompressed) it would be around 30GB.

I have 16gb of ram and my game starts up at about 2gb and increases up to about 4gb when it starts to run really choppy.

My total usage is about 6gb so why is my game jittering at that point when i have 16gb of memory ?

Sorry, I'm sure it wasn't clear from my post. You're certainly experiencing a bad slowdown due to a problem in the UI where it just ends up collecting many things into the processing list and bogs down your CPU when opening (and closing) the UI elements.

Another way to put this is that it is a memory leak, but you won't notice this memory increase compared to the usage for things like landscape textures and building geometry. In this case, it's composed of several parts, and we've address a couple but have some more to go.

Clearly something went wrong in the last wipe. Before I could easily play for 2-4 hours before it got laggy. Now after wipe i can only play 30 mins and its unplayable and have to restart game. Also experiencing some strange spikes when my character seems to stop for a second and then continue. Never had this problem before and have almost played 1000h since start.

Do you mind sharing which server? (PM if you'd like)

I noticed an increase in the frequency with which I have to restart the game, as well. Usually I can go for a few hours before it falls on its ass, but as of last wipe, its only about 30min to an hour until all UI manipulation is preceded by massive lag.

I'm sometimes afraid to press "I" because it feels like H1Z1 is killing my pc for a second each time I do it.

specifically referring to the UI lag...

1
FoOKaa•

Yeah 100% agree its loads worse since the wipe, my memory usage for H1Z1.exe goes from 1.8-2.5 up to 4gb pretty dam quickly now.

It seems its defo related to 1 of 2 things, going in and out of containers or the zombies accumulating around your base?shack ect...

Same, I go from about 2.4GB at load up to about 3.4GB before it starts getting unplayable and eventually crashes.

Ridiculous.

Really...mine sits at 4.3GB and slowly inches up from there during gameplay, I thought that was normal.

Video/Graphics settings probably accounts for the difference. I play at low render distance. Too much player built crap lags my fps.

Its worse for me now as well. Its crashing when it never has before. Still needing to restart after 30odd mins of playtime.

Although there are very likely some leaks, the bulk of the memory going up over time has to do with assets being loaded that you don't need until you are in range of them. Again though, I feel the same way you guys do... there's some fire here... not just smoke and we're looking closely at it.

I feel its connected with the account inventory, the more skins I have the leggier my inventory menu is. If I trade them off of my account, so they don't show in game, I get much less lag in the inventory screen.

Mine is better after this patch. I played a pretty long session tonight. Both core and BR combined, about 4 hours. My UI/inv bug seems to be gone.

logging in and out fixes some of it

Mine is horrible after the last wipe. Definitely seems to be more severe than before.

Is this considered a memory leak though? Or just a UI loading issue?

1
Davinci_AUT•

Since last wipe my game gets really laggy after like 5 minutes playtime... its really annoying :((

shadow2k1•

yea this memory leak is game breaking i get about 45 mins of game play before i have to log out i just cant keep logging in and out to play this game with the limited amount of time i have

they put hippos in H1Z1?

Had he same problem last night. Was learning recipes and my UI interaction starting getting a delay.

1
ConsortiumCzar•

Yup. So frustrating ugh

I assume I haven't had the memory issue because I play BR exclusively, but I got my first taste of it last night after the latest patch. It started lagging like a bitch seemingly at random. Checked my running programs, nothing out of the ordinary. Check my processes, looks fine. CPU load, fine. Temps fine. RAM at 7.6 gigs? Holy shit.

I hope it doesn't become a consistent issue because it rendered the game unplayable, and logging out of a top 10 placement in BR sucks. Fighting with that kind of chop is like scraping my eyes with a fork. Ah, well. At least my GPU didn't shit the bed. I was scurred for a minute.

juubie•

This is a horrible issue. It was slightly improved this patch, but the only improvement was how long I can go before closing out the game is required. It definitely has to do with the inventory and container windows - any "container" so cars, dressers, etc. - and crafting multiple things.
