How do you like to store your personal items when you are out walking/jogging/running?

I've started to try getting into a regular exercise routine both for physical and mental health reasons. Since I can't afford a gym membership, I've decided to just go walking and jogging a few miles a day around town.

However, I have run into a slightly annoying dilemma. Whenever I go out, I like to have my phone, wallet, keys, and pepper spray with me, all in case of an emergency (and obviously I can't get back into my house without my keys). Sometimes I like to bring a water bottle with me, but not always. A lot of my gym shorts and other preferred exercise clothes do not have pockets, and so I have to carry all my belongings in my hands, which can be very annoying.

I've considered getting something like a waist pouch or something to make things easier for me, but was wondering if anyone uses something different or knows of a better, more creative idea. :)

Edit: Not mace . . . pepper spray. One of those small containers that goes on a key chain. I keep confusing the two all the time.

Edit 2: Thank you all for your creative suggestions and links! Keep 'em coming! :D

Single house key goes in sports bra, ID in a back pocket on the waistband that's designed just for that purpose. Phone went in an armband, but I don't even bring it anymore.

I don't presume to know where you live, but I have never ever ever brought mace with me out for a jog, day or night. Perhaps you live in a rougher area than I, but attacks by perfect strangers perpetrated against other perfect strangers are more rare than the internet might have one believe. If it's really necessary, I'd put it in another arm band.

I have a fannypack, or if it's cooler in my jacket pockets. I don't bring a wallet, maybe sometimes just my debit card.

Fianlly, someone else who can appreciate the beauty that is a fanny pack

They make pretty cool running fanny packs. I haven't gotten one because I don't stick to exercising well enough to justify the expense. My running clothes do make comfortable pajamas so they have dual use :p

I put my house key on a rubber band and put that either on my wrist or in my hair. I have my phone in an arm band. And that's all.

I put my phone in one of those arm holder thingies and my house key in my shoe.

I have my phone in one of those, but don't carry anything else.
I usually go in the morning while my SO is still waking up.

Invest in a camel back. Most have a pocket or two on them besides the one that holds the water pouch. That'll take care of everything.

I use a spibelt http://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Original-No-Bounce-Adventurers-Resistant/dp/B00SJRKK5G to carry my stuff in. You could also find a cheap hydration backpack, take the water bladder out, and just use it like a regular backpack. Nathan and Camelbak make great ones.

I have a flip belt! it's like a fanny pack, but more streamlined. I usually bring my key, my debit card and my phone.

I put my house key in my bra and don't bring anything else, but I usually just run 3 miles or so around my neighborhood in daylight.

I carry my phone, my keys I either tuck into a small internal pocket in my running shorts or strap to my wrist with a ponytail binder and a sweatband so they don't flop around.

I've never had any use for a wallet or any personal safety stuff, so I can't help you out with that.

I just carry my phone and either tie my keys in my shoe or wear a spibelt if I have more stuff. :)

Phone in arm holder, key on shoelace, lip balm in bra

I go on 8-12 mile walks fairly frequently so I have a mini backpack for water, snacks, phone and money.

I have an arm band for my phone that also has a divider in the main pocket that I can slip in my house key and/or cards into. I've also found that if I'm diligent about hydrating throughout the day that I don't need to worry about bringing water with me. I'm not sure how long your runs are, or how hot it is where you live so ymmv.

I put my ID and cc (if I decide I'll run by the coffee shop) in the pocket most sports tanks have and now that I think about it, new designs don't have them... But, I do have a small leather purse that fits my phone perfectly. It thankfully has a way for me to move the straps to wear it as a small fanny pack, so I do that and use it for my keys, chapstick and phone. I usually run with my dog so I bought a doggie water bottle thing I can just have it across my body like a purse. I use it to go out, too. Honestly you wouldn't even know it's meant for dogs because of the way it's designed. I'd say go for a small fanny pack like purse.

If it's winter the phone goes to a pocket with the keys. If it's summer the phone goes to an arm band with the keys or to a waist pouch, that I steal from my trail runner boyfriend. There are wrist pouchs too, to put the keys in it.

Have a look at Maxpedition's range of belt packs. I took a Versipack with me to the rainforest for scientific sampling, and it worked so damn well that I take it every time I go hiking. I added two water bottle pouches to either side and a fold-up dump pouch to the front using the MOLLE straps, and it's just great. I can carry four or five kilos in it because all that weight sits on my caboose.

You might be more interested in the Thermite if you're more into running, I guess, since it is stabilised by both your waist and your thigh.

I use an arm band for my phone and tuck my house key in the back of the pouch. That's all I take.

I would suggest just taking your credit card or some cash rather than your whole wallet. Would save you carrying one more thing.

I have an arm pouch that is the size of a credit card. In that, I keep a credit card or a bit of cash in case of an emergency, and my house key. I hold my phone while I run, or put it in a small waist pouch that pretty much fits only the phone. That's all I take.

I never take water with me on a run. If I'm running more than 19k and I get desperate, I just stop at a convenience store for a bottle of water. Not the best plan for when I go on trails, but generally anything under 60-90 minutes should be fine sans-water, as long as you hydrate properly throughout the day.

In my pockets. HAHAHA.

Nah. In my bra.
