Weapon breakdown - learned skill?

You used to be able to take guns apart to recombine the pieces to get higher quality.

Is that just not an option anymore? Or is it gated behind some book about gunsmithing I haven't found yet? Or am I just plain blind and missing it in the new menu system?

You need to have the book for the particular weapon you want to make/break. Each weapon needs a different book.

Hmmmm, ok. I could swear I have the pistol book but still can't break down pistols. But maybe I've got my maps mixed up.

How will it manifest in the crafting menu? Would something along the lines of disassembly show up in the right click menu for a pistol?

On the right hand side there is a recycle symbol. In that menu there is a breakdown option. Any weapon or bullet goes in the OUTPUT slot. For weapons you get all parts back. For bullets you only get 1 piece back.

Ah, there it is.

Hey look, a button all by itself nowhere near anything that would make you think it exists.

If you can create the gun then you have the ability to dismantle it. You do that by putting it in the finished window and not the crafting box.

You can definitely disassemble the pistol without knowing how to put it together. See the great quality pistol parts just waiting in my chest and the poor quality pistol in my inventory...

Ah, I thought that had changed with A12.

Ok cool, thanks. That's how it worked in A11, obviously. I probably tried that before I had the book.

Now begins the long wait before I can get home from work and fiddle with it some more.

I broke down a shotgun today without the book. Couldn't put it back together though.
