Kvaasik - The Rise of Thras
1 - The Rise of Thras
2 - The Cold Front
They have forgotten us. They think us repulsive, ignorant, they think us a joke. Perhaps the dwellers of Tamriel have forgotten how we summon sea monsters with ease, or how we destroyed half their population with a simple pestilence. Thras was once a power to be reckoned with, and yet was only a quarter of the size of Auridon. Perhaps it is time to remind them of our greatness.
Long ago, the leader of our tribe and greatest seer in Thras, S’Gast, foresaw a time of instability on the Rim of the Sky in which the Sload will thrive, heralded by a powerful talisman on an elven ship. Of course, S’Gast’s visions became clearer with time. He developed his plan for decades on end. Finally, several years later, elven ships sailed in the distance, the precise vessels S’gast had predicted. We destroyed the vessels without issue, using long-dead sea serpents to beach them and secure the necklace. S’Gast had named the talisman the Tars Mogrif, and had explained how it worked with absolute certainty.
S’Gast had chosen me to venture to Skyrim (The ‘Rim of the Sky’), perhaps because I was the most disposable, or perhaps he trusted me the most. Cautiously, he smeared a sample of blood from one of the ship’s passengers onto the amulet, resulting in a small spark. S’Gast handed me the amulet to put on, which fit very snugly around my head. A strange feeling of depth washed over me, as if I was submerged in deep waters. As the feeling subsided, I immediately recognized what had happened; it was similar to the shapeshifting spells that we had been using for centuries, but this transformation was absolute. My skin was tinted green, my body noticeably shorter and lighter. Even the scent of my Sload skin had disappeared, replaced by the foul odor of Altmer.
Hesitantly, I lifted my legs, unused to such free movement. It felt as if I could swim to Skyrim with these new, agile limbs. S’Gast instructed me of what I must do when in Skyrim, careful not to leave anything out. I must become familiar with Skyrim’s current economic status, their diplomatic relations, and even their climate. Laying siege to such an odd location will give us the element of surprise, but we will only grow more powerful when we have inside knowledge of everything from Skyrim’s vegetation to its inhabitants’ diets.
Of course, I was not wearing anything; the Sload were not as ashamed of their bodies as the Tamriel-dwellers, and the Tars Mogrif did not work on clothing. I stripped my doppelganger of his armor (I think it was a boy, as gender is a foreign idea to genderless creatures) and equipped this new body with thick hides. The leather felt odd on my skin, but it would make better my disguise. With such a foolproof façade, those Skyrim-dwellers will never see me coming.
Then, when the Sload return to conquer all, they will know their masters.
