I am about to get back into SWTOR but I was wondering if the extra xp subscribers get is too much. I really want to do most if not all side quests and I don't want to outlevel content. Will I be able to do this as a sub?

With the 12x XP event, you will likely quickly outlevel content if you do all the side quests. Normally, you would not. The 12x XP event is meant so that you can skip almost all side quests and planetary quests.
EDIT: You can disable this with a gadget on the fleet.
Even without 12xp, a sub will out level a planet if they hit all the side quests just because of rested xp. It's not a huge thing, but I think takes about 2 planets to be noticeable.
I was averaging almost 2 levels per hour with the XP boost and ended up finishing my class quests at lvl 55 while only doing the class quest and the main planetary quest. It is a bit much.
That's the point of the boost. Its so you can play through the class story only, as if it were KOTOR 3 :D

I think your character stops getting XP when it's more then 6 (or 7) levels above the quest or mob, so it should not be a big deal.
With the 12X XP boost I even manage to outlevel just the player story quest. I do on FP a day (usually) just to keep extra comms so I can keep myself and my followers well geared.
It is designed that all you have to do is the story quests and nothing else. If you have XP buffs or do other content of course you will out level, as you're doing more than required/intended.
They should have made it a legacy toggle, but there is an item to stop the boost too, on fleet, as others have mentioned.
Yeah, I wasn't complaining. This is the game I originally bought back on the first day it ever went on sale. This is a little more like the game I wanted when I played TSL. I still think they should get going on a 3rd Kotor. I feel like they expected SWTOR to be successful like WoW was and make them all crazy rich so they could then make KOTOR 3. Sadly that never happened.
I'm level 18 about to finish DK with this boost. Could I turn it off and just do class quests until the quest levels catch up?
If you have the sub bonus and do all side missions, you will be over leveled the entire time you play. I personally only do class missions and just found myself five levels above the class requirement. If you want to be a sub while doing all side missions and not go ten levels above class level, there is a vendor on the fleet I believe in the combat area that will give you something that will take away the story bonus. I think he is called Ancient Vendor...
You can buy an item from the Fleet that will disable the XP boost for 8 hours per use (costs 0 credits of course).
Otherwise you will outlevel them.
