Jack Slack is P4P the most promoted journalist on reddit.
Thats because his writing is awesome. Do you know how many fighting related books I own? 1. This one :)
I felt I owed it to him to give his book a shot after reading most of his articles.
Fightonomics is a good book.
Ill look that one up
You 100% should also check out The fighter's mind by Sam Sheridan. It's excellent.
Writer, not journalist, but still true.
Getting all conspiracy up in here, but I think he might have some alt accounts to get around the self-promotion rule. This post felt weird for example. Account with no activity in 9 months and no posts in r/MMA comes out of no where to post a link to Jack's Amazon book and then goes silent again.
No sir, I use my own account to post my own stuff. The mods have been awesome enough to make me an approved submitter so I am allowed to post my own content without worrying about ratios and so on.
Sometimes I sympathize with the old Unidan temptation, when there's dudes with multiple accounts downvoting my article literally a minute after it goes up, but this sub is pretty great at giving stuff the attention it deserves.
I didn't post anything about my book coming out because I don't like advertising products, I just like sharing my articles.
I can vouch for Jack 100%. He has been here for years and has always been very respectful of the rules and self promotion. Before he was an approved submitter he didn't really have to post his own stuff as other users were racing to get the karma from posting it themselves. Since he's been an approved submitter he hasn't abused that privilege and is a great addition to the subreddit.

Here's the thing. You said a "roundhouse kicks are the same as side kicks."
Is it a kick? Yes. No one's arguing that.
As someone who is a fight analyst who studies all forms of martial arts, I am telling you, specifically, in combat sports, no one calls roundhouse kicks side kicks. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.
It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?
Wait, what did I miss? :S
Edit: Oh slick Unidan reference! I thought I'd got myself into an argument then :P
Do you get paid for analyzing fights? Because, if you don't, you and I are equally qualified to claim we are fight analysts.
I've had problems with someone downvoted everything I post the second it hits the "New" page. Almost like they're using some kind of bot to do it. Really, reddit needs to re-do their algorithmic so the first few votes aren't so important.
Yeah, we have a few users who are pissy because we banned them, I assume it's them. If it continues I'll get the admins to look into it.
The mods made a great choice giving you that green light.
100% quality every time, even Wushu Watch.
Helps that Jack could be a total egotistical asshole and he isn't. All my interactions with him are great, he's never acted above anyone else or anything so on top of providing the best analysis of striking in combat sports he's a good dude and that's really nice to deal with for us.
Yeah, I noticed that too.
Nope. Im real. I used to post a ton in r/mma but I haven't had time recently.

Please do explain how what I wrote has anything to do with being a neckbeard.

If they ever release a paperback I'll buy it immediately. I don't like owning digital media if I can help it, but I desperately want this book.
Same here. I want it as a book.
Call me a hipster, but I like actual books.
i hate books, they feel like such a massive waste of resources.
(not saying im right and youre wrong, just a difference of opinion)
The problem with kindle is you don't actually own the book.
You see, when I die my kindle content just goes away, it's like i'm paying to borrow it indefinitely.
Paperback/hardcover or whatever physical print manifestation the literature is in, will be good as long as it's well kept and can be passed down or given away to a fellow student or my next of kin.
I like my kindle too, good for travel but I like books and still buy the ones I really want to hold on to or have useful information that I can give to my child.
I don't think paper backs are currently expected to last much more than 50 years. Paper is so thin, now. Unless the quality is high, and you take very good care of it, don't expect it to last very long.
I'd consider it. As far as I know, it's not available in paper-back though, so I'll hold off.
Paperback 100%
10/10 would buy in paperback. I'm the guy who asked this on Amazon.co.uk.
I can't get into digital book reading at all, it just doesn't feel right.
What's the chance there'll be an audiobook? My A.D.D won't let me read. It all starts out great, then after 10min I come to and realize I remember nothing of the last 10min.
Read by Wanderlei
I'd give everything I owned to have Nick and Nate do an audiobook. Any book.
I need an Audible version!
No offense, but it sounds like you need some supplements that are good for your brain (not overpriced onnit garbage). Supplements like fish oil, DHEA, and magnesium are great to support healthy brain function.
And, gaining an aptitude for doing something you are not used to is important. I have had times in my life where I read all the time, but if I have a period of a few months where I read little, it really takes me a while to train myself to be able to relearn how to absorb and catalogue all that information.
Don't doubt yourself. Persist! Reading a lot is probably the most powerful tool you will ever have. Knowledge is power.
Thanks!
Not a problem, bud.
Would buy a paperback at the right price point
I probably will, dudes a great writer
I want it in print!
I have purchased it and am definitely enjoying it thus far. I love how he gives specific fighters to look at in order to best understand the techniques he is discussing.
Just bought it. I'm sure I'll be happy with it.
Already bought, kindle version. Will read this weekend!
Ate it up in about an hour or two, basic concepts but very good read.
Ahhh yes, indeed. It was a novel momentary distraction for myself also, an amusing indulgence in between less elementary texts with which I have been consuming today.
Lol I meant it was something you can sit down and want to read all the way through without stopping, didn't mean to sound douchey.
You're right bro, sorry for teasing.
I used to drink at an art studio/ abandoned garage called refined design. It focused on the use of recycled materials and also, drinking.
I would Link the Amazon or whatever for the lazy people
Just did. I watched a breakdown Rousey and how to exploit the weak plane on your opponent and have been hooked since. i use it everyday with my takedowns and they have gotten noticeably better in a very short time. Thanks, Slack!
Release a paperback version and I might buy it.
FFS guys, you can't just post this and no link to where I can buy !
Get your shit together !
no
Cheers dude! Very kind :)
I'm pretty proud of it :) Yesterday it was the top seller in both boxing and martial arts, out selling Tyson and Ronda's books!
It took a long time to write because I wanted to really do something special and talk about all fighting rather than just specific fights. I think it does what I wanted it to :)
We want paperback! We want paperback!
Seconded.
Can we expect it to be sold in print at any point?
Jack, I'm a part-time writer and MMA fan who's very comfortable with self-publishing, including the technical book-building aspects. If you're interested, if you don't have any other expert available to help, then I'd be happy to offer to help you with the self-publishing process to publish your book as a paperback.
This is unrelated but have you ever thought about or been approached by Connor Reubusch or Pat Wyman to guest on an episode of heavy hands? It's a phenomenal show.
Please do it!
1000x this
Is there any chance of a non-kindle version of the book? I want to put it on my Kobo reader because I don't live in America and Amazon only lets you read this book on a kindle, iphone, or a computer screen.
Just found this service: https://www.lulu.com
Print on demand, free listing on Amazon, etc...
You are the absolute BEST MMA writer in the game. No fluff, no frills. All business. I love it. I've been dishing your work out to my friends so they can enjoy it, too. I hope your book will eventually be on paperback. I know it costs, but I HATE buying digitally. I love having physical copies of books.
