Felicia Day opens up about harassment in her new book
Probaby just about everyone here knows that Felicia Day was among those targeted by GamerGate, and that her home address was posted in her comments literally just a few minutes after she first criticized them.
I've been a fan of Felicia's since - basically forever, really - and so not a lot of the content of her book was new to me (she's talked a lot about her ... unorthodox ... upbringing quite a bit in other places). But this revelation, in her chapter about #GamerGate, certainly was:
I'd been doxxed by 4chan already, the year before.
In 2013, a group on that forum tracked down a ton of personal information on me. They shared all that and pictures of the outside of my house and my license plate amongst themselves. A disturbed fan used that information and showed up at my front door, made his way INTO MY HOUSE, and afterward, proceeded to obsess over me online in an erratic and abusive way to the extent that I was terrified he would show up again and do something violent.
So that's why so many haters were able to post my address so quickly a year later. Efficient, huh?
Later she writes:
It took six months for me to become comfortable with walking my dog at night (...), and I will never feel 100 percent safe in my own home again. I have had people sitting in cars outside my window, certified letters sent to my address just to say "I know where you live," and phone calls from strange area codes at all hours of the night. Now that I know how easy it is for anyone with an agenda to track me down, feeling safe is a cute, nostalgic feeling.
One of the tweets she quotes in the book, from a #GamerGate supporter, describes it rather succinctly:
@feliciaday Felicia could have supported #gamergate and became a hero. But she took the SJW shill route and paid the price.
"Paid the price."
Yeah, any GG supporters reading this? Go fuck yourselves.

I was wondering why there was a renewed push to dismiss her as a "fake geek" on Twitter. Now I know - it's because she didn't STFU the first time GG tried to intimidate her into silence. Good on her for speaking up, even knowing she's gonna get re-Gatored.
The real irony being that it would be almost unfathomable to dismiss her as fake after reading the book. Or after, you know, knowing anything about her story beforehand.
Of course, I would put the number of Gators that will actually read it somewhere in the low single digits. Except for the chapter about them, of course, which they will hate-read to the ends of the earth.
She's pretty and successful. Therefor not a real geek. Boom, gator'd.
So they are exactly like the people who call every band the becomes sucessful "sellouts"? Figures.
That explains why The Effect brothers are accepted as geeks, then!
Day created The Guild and Cooptitude among a million other things. Calling her a "fake geek girl" with literally hundreds of hours of footage proving otherwise is truther-level denial.
And then you factor by those with average reading comprehension and you've got zero gators understanding what she's saying.
and the thing is, I'm not aware of Anne Rice coming forward to condemn all the people writing fake, negative reviews of Felicia's book.
but she surely wouldn't want to piss off her newfound fan club, would she?
What about Anne Rice?
anne rice is notorious for being angry that people submit reviews she deems bad on people's work, and has no problems highlighting the people leaving the reviews so that her twitter followers and Facebook fans will go after them.
she did this do randi harper recently, after finding an old review harper left on amazon that was critical of the author of a book rather than of the book itself. anne rice received a lot of support from GG for putting randi in her crosshairs, and has been an honorary gater ever since. I think they even gave her a "based" title like they did with sommers.
Then there's the fact that she personally doxxed someone herself. And her charming habit of calling criticism of authors "lynching" and "gang bangs". Her little minion here writes for AVFM and spends his days ranting about feminazis on twitter----when he's not threatening women and doxxing them.
Is Anne Rice aware that Gators are review bombing Felicia Days book?
I'm pretty sure Anne Rice won't give a shit, given how desperately she clutched at the chance to attack someone getting a moderate amount of media attention, to try and steal a small amount of relevance.
Anne Rice is too busy defending an awful book about a Jewish concentration camp prisoner falling in love with.....the SS commandant who runs it----where the woman is described as a "Jewess". A lot of people are upset but Rice is whipping out the term "lynching" again to defend another white woman.
If that's true then why wouldn't she cash in on the Felicia Day situation?
I tweeted her about it, but got no reply.
I'm not on Twitter but maybe more people could alert her to it and maybe she'll speak out against it. I'm assuming she could miss one tweet but lots of polite tweets could get noticed.
She is now. I've contacted her and I'm on it.
I've seen a lot of people commenting about her being a fake Geek girl, or otherwise an outsider, who was "welcomed in" to the Geek community on good faith, which she then betrayed. Out of nothing she made an incredibly successful show about her World of Warcraft addiction, staring archetypal characters that all geeks can relate to. Who's job is it to welcome her in to anything?
