So how easy is it to pay the bills?

Working in the vape and/or vape friendly industries? I understand counter help would be compensated differently from a manager or owner or that a juice mixer may be compensated differently than social media guru.
Also, I am sure location plays a big part in it. For those of you in the business, how are things going for you? I would love to be able to work in the vape industry but I am wondering if it would be a step up or a step down in income.

Margins are nothing. Requires very little skill (the kind that take years to hone). Massive competition.

Best bet would be outside sales between OEMs and B&Ms I'd say.

Vape shops are the new Game Stop. Entry level pay. Not a lot of room for improvement as it's mostly small corporations owned by one person, maybe two.

That is what I was thinking too. To be a sales rep for a wholesaler or OEM. Any idea where they advertise their jobs?

Send your sales resume to all of them.

Stay away from inside sales and aim for the full commission route.

Sounds like a plan.

Here's the answer you don't want to hear: it depends.

What skill set do you bring to the table? A B&M job will fall within the lines of any other retail pay. Customer service, sales, brand development, SEO, web design, R&D, managerial, and executive positions offer much more. These positions typically exist in the vaping manufacturers (hardware and juice).

Meh, I figured I would get a ton of "it depends", mostly because it is the truth. I bring customer service, sales, and managerial experience to the proverbial table. I also have razor sharp wit, and I read good. I figured manufacturers would be the place to look, I appreciate the answer. Thanks!

Without revealing too much, I make about 12/hr (works out to about 26K a year) +benefits/dental as a manager at a locally owned B&M. Entry level positions average $9-10/hr like most other retail positions. In my area though it is highly competitive and shops are constantly sniping employees from other shops which definitely helps fuel higher base pay. Working in a vape shop also has huge benefits in terms of networking, I meet awesome people from multiple industries and get to make inroads with local suppliers and distributors of vape gear, as well as connections with overseas suppliers in China with whom we purchase a lot of our gear from.

I must say it's pretty dope and I love my job but for sure, 12/hr can be hard to live on especially if you've got debt.

Thanks for the insight. Do you feel this networking will ultimately lead you into a job with said suppliers and distributors? Do you know if the suppliers and distributors require B&M experience to be considered for a position?

Boots on the ground endpoint retail jobs are never going to be lucrative. Especially when it's a small company.
