Tales From A Dorm Room: Part Two

Series

Part One

Hi again. This is might be long, so bare with me!

I'm glad to see interest in what I have to say. It helped me feel less alone in my curiosity. See, yeah, my friends are concerned. Things are kinda bleak. When I suggested we do investigating, they were less than thrilled. Amelia, in her shock induced state, wanted to go nowhere near what had found our college. She's tried to be her normal, peppy self. It wasn't going well. Niklaus didn't want to even mention the events. Superstitious guy, on a certain level. Diaval claimed it to not be our place and wouldn't say much more. Like he ever has a lot to say.

Which meant it was all of them against me. And I just couldn't have that. Oh, no. Stupid me.

I gave some lame ass speech about heroics and I think I threw it Lord of the Rings. We had to take the ring to Mordor, so to speak. They didn't buy that. But they did agree to go look around, if only to get me to stop quoting movies. Either way, I won that argument. Overall, I think we've all lost the game.

So, after agreeing to go, we got ready to go. Full charge on the cell phones in case we got separated and also because two of us would be recording the whole time. Flashlights at the ready. Really, we tried to mimic Ghost Hunters. But we're all a bunch of college kids. We have cell phones and lights. That's it. We can't even afford to buy new stuff. It's a mess. But it worked enough.

I'm going to guess it was around 8 before we were able to go out and go anywhere, just because I remember the sun going down, and Niklaus remarking that 'nothing scary goes on before the sun goes down' and laughing about it. Despite his reluctance, he was relaxing, and it helped all of our moral. Anyway, we leave and think it'll be better if we divide and conquer. Two lecture halls and three dining buildings to goof around in, and one night to do it all, without getting caught. Luckily, most official people are gone by that time of day. So, Amelia and Diaval head off to the math building to check it out. Niklaus went with me to the nearest dining hall, Schaffer.

The place was weird, I'll admit. It's dark, so, of course, spooky, and Niklaus is being a douche by trying to give me the creeps. Everything seemed to be in place, though. We found evidence of people having been there, working on a few things. Totally normal. We both agreed, though, the building was way too cold. It's been hot this week. 90 degrees every day. An unused building should not really be chilly, let alone allow us to see our breath. We couldn't find anything else, though. Not even a blip on the camera. We left, deciding on the arts building next. On the way, we crossed paths with the other half of our team. They had the same thing to say that we did. Not a damn thing out of place. Just really, really cold.

Turns out, every building was like that. A few signs people had been in and out trying to fix the problems. Nothing out of place. Freezing cold. We gave up. Frost wasn't going to give us many answers.

Heading back to the dorm hall, still a little chilled from the buildings, Amelia, in all her pleasantries, suggested we go into the student union to eat and de-stress. It's open late enough that we could still have dropped by. I was disappointed in having found nothing, and proved that these were just weird happenings on campus, so, I was the last to agree. Looking back, I'm not sure which answer would have been the better one. But I blame my answer for the rest of the events.

We got to the building and tried to decided what we'd do. Since the mold first started, we had all grouped together in meals and held banquets of junk food in Amelia and my room every day. The twins seem to not like being in theirs for whatever reason. So, there we are, arguing over what we're having, and we hear this sound. Like. Choking. Even though the union is open late, most people are out by 7, so it startled us. All at once, we spin around, and this guy is knelt down, throwing up on the floor, holding his stomach like he was afraid all of his intestines were going to come out. Food sprawled out to his left in a mess, like he tossed it.

Rotten. All of it. Every portion of what had been in that to-go box had gone bad. Not even a little, just a bit stale bad, or even the slight moldiness that had taken over the dining halls. No, this stuff was pure black and gooey in some places. Apparently, he hadn't look before he bit. Or maybe he had and it rotted in his mouth. A friend of his, or what I assume to be his friend, came to help and they got him taken care of. Well. They took him to the infirmary, in any case. I stood there, staring at my friends, total disbelief. Admittedly, it was a little douche like of us to just stand there, but we were kind of on edge. Then, we all started looking around, at the tables, what was sitting out. At everything. All the food in the union was going to hell in a hand basket right in front of us, turning the same dark black the stuff in the to-go box had. We left in a hurry.

It didn't happen that fast before. The events. I don't know why they sped up like that... It had been days before and..now..

Anyway. We left, determined to get back to the room and look over the footage and sound we got. We took the elevator.

And that was a bad idea.

We were babbling about what we'd seen, what to do. It took us up to our floor and, due to the elevator being rather small, kind of single file our way out, still talking, unaware. Diaval, then me, then Niklaus, then Amelia. Or it should have been that way. Niklaus no more than stepped out than the doors slammed shut. They made this...weird sound, like bending metal. He had made a poor choice in wearing those damn Tripp jeans, too. They got stuck. Those doors could have taken his leg off, had he been any slower. If you know anything about elevator doors, you know that they don't close when there's movement in front of them. So, Amelia should not have been locked in. Niklaus shouldn't have been pinned to the door. But they were. Niklaus was an easy fix. We grabbed up a pair of scissors and cut him out, even with his whimpering.

Amelia, though...

She's still there. The doors look like they fell, not closed. There's a small crack, just big enough to fit a hand through, up at the top. Help has come, Amelia hit the emergency button in the elevator, but they've mostly proven futile. Everything they've done...hasn't worked. They can pry the doors apart, but once it gets more than a couple inches, they slam together again. Think kind of like if you tried to push open a door, and someone on the other side was bigger than you, and they wanted it closed. Something is..keeping her in there.

Eventually, the twins and I went back to the room. They wouldn't let us stay very long. Emergency situation. Someone is positioned out there now to keep watch over Amelia while they sort it out. All the residents have to take the stairs now, obviously, but no one is venturing out that way. Amelia cries a lot. I've talked with her a little but really can't stay long. They shoo me away after an hour or so.

I'm worried for her. And...kind of worried for the rest of us. None of our phones worked when we tried them. All black screens. The batteries aren't even taking a charge. They're just hunks of plastic, at this point. We're not the only ones. I've heard a few people yelling about their phones not working, either. Same case.

The other thing is that the power hasn't been really reliable in the hall today. It flickers in and out, like clockwork, every half hour. 30 minutes on. 30 minutes off. We're at 25 minutes of no power, and every time I get a little nervous about it not coming back.

I don't know what's out there.

But I think we pissed it off by looking for it.
