Tales From A Dorm Room: Third and Final Part
Hey again, no sleep. Bet you didn't think you'd hear from me again, did you? I didn't think you would either. But here I am.
It's been...trying. These last few weeks. The power went out permanently. People who left campus, or came onto it, somehow ended up.... not being there. One girl had been hit by a semi as she left the area. Officers tried to come onto the area and, honestly, I still don't know where they went or what happened to them. One moment they were there. The next moment, not so much.
I bet you also wonder what the hell went down here. What happened to Amelia. To me. The twins. Where the whistling came from. I have those answers.
First, Amelia. Whatever had locked her up in that elevator gave up after another day of pulling on the doors. I went to bring her breakfast (not everything had rotted to hell, but breakfast meant a poptart and water) and the doors slid right open. Amelia, poor kid. She scurried out and clung to me like I was God, coming to save her from eternal damnation. I can't say I blame her, though. I probably would have done the same thing. She was shell shocked for awhile and wouldn't go anywhere without someone else holding her hand. The power going out didn't help her any. She didn't sleep at night. Kept saying 'it' would come back. 'It' thrived in the dark. Never did explain what 'it' was. I only assumed that it was the thing that kept her in the elevator so long. During the day, she slept. That meant so did I, and the twins, too. They're cool enough to have stayed up with me at night, helping keep Amelia calm.
It only took a couple days before we tried to just up and leave campus. But, like I said, Amelia's elevator friend apparently didn't want us to get help. It felt like running into a wall. Diaval broke his nose trying to get out. Some did, I don't know how, but not for long.
We adapted to the environment. Most of the food stayed dead and gone. Some of it didn't, mostly convenient store stuff, and it was rationed to us. It was like prison, I assume. We could, however, go for walks. We did that every day until things started getting ugly. On one of these walks, I heard it. Amelia heard it, too, and jumped into Diaval's arms in a second. The whistling. From early on. It was outside. And loud. Diaval and Niklaus seemed unnerved by it, but not entirely afraid. We all stood there, with Amelia screaming and that damn whistle sounding over head. It came in a blur. Some guy, big, hulking dude, probably a football player, came running past us and barreled into another student. I thought it was the madness of being prisoner setting in. Two guys starting a brawl. But...the blood..flew in the air. Like when you jump in a puddle and the water goes spraying up around your feet. This guy - this monster of a guy - was eating the other. Ripping apart his flesh like a damn animal and spewing blood into the air.
I didn't stay long. We bolted back to the dorms. Inside, I couldn't hear whistling. I dunno if it stopped or...we just couldn't hear it. But Amelia's shrieks became pathetic whimpers and the twins.... looked pale. They ended up throwing up for the rest of the night and Amelia and I didn't see much of them. I chalked it up to what we'd seen. You don't see cannibalism up close like that every day. But, in the morning, they were still sick, and muttering about how sorry they were.
The rest of the time kind of dulled into a blood spattered blur. People were dying trying to escape. They were dying by leaving the dorms. They were throwing themselves out windows and cutting their wrists with whatever they could find that went deep enough to kill them off. It wasn't pleasant. The twins stayed holed up in their room and I was afraid they'd offed themselves too.
Finally, after days upon days (I'd honestly lost count by that point what day it was) they showed up. They walked into the room, sat on the floor, and both, simultaneously, started bawling. Apparently, all the death and chaos was too much for them. They cracked and started rambling.
'It', Amelia's elevator friend, was a monster. They didn't know what. They'd been dicking around in their room one night. Playing with candles and games they found online. You know the ones. I know you do. They usually come with a label that say don't play. Monsters involved. Demons. Spirits. Horrible creatures. They played anyway. They played a lot of them, actually.
Did you know playing one of those games is bad?
Did you know playing a lot of them is worse? Especially when you don't end any of them?
The twins, but stupid, morbid curiosity, let loose these..things. Mostly the 'It'. 'It' had played most of the games with the twins. But when you don't end them...the spirits...the monsters...they don't leave. These ones still wanted to play. And punished everyone for it.
The moment following were... intense...and quick. Their babble ended, only to be replaced with Amelia shrieking and screaming obscenities at them. Then there was blood. A lot of fucking blood. I don't even know how it happened. Fuck, I don't know how most of these shitty events happened! All I know is what I saw. And I saw my friends - these two idiots that summoned demons - slowly start being ripped apart. Like something had gotten inside of them and was clawing its way out. They were torn to ribbons. Blood, internal organs, all that came out. But nothing else. Not whatever did that to them.
It took two days more for the nightmare party to end. The power came back. Food stopped rotting. People could leave, or enter campus. But there was a change in the air. Something still felt weird. I'd gone home. We all did. They send us off on an 'extended vacation'.
So, I finally got around to opening my computer. And, somehow, looked up the school. But it's all gone. It's all. Gone. Every statement, recording, and death. It's gone. The students, they're dead. But their death dates and reasoning are off. Like, they said five of those students had gotten into a fatal crash. But nothing on the twins. Its like they didn't even exist. It's like none of it existed.
I called Amelia, to ask her.
She asked me what the hell I'd been talking about. We didn't live across from twins. Nobody lived across the hall from us. And the elevator had always been down.
I made up a bogus story about a nightmare and hung up.
But I know what I saw.
I saw the game end. And those things...'it'....they won. And I lost.
