Help me decide between these four ATVs (utility for hunting etc)

Background

I want a utility ATV for trail riding as well as to use in a hunting lease. I might even get a tow behind mower. The hunting lease is a mix of hardwoods, planted pines, and river bottom.. it DOES flood and often times i drive through a bit of water. I am a big guy (over 6' tall, over 250lbs), so i need something with power enough to haul me and a deer, maybe some bags of corn, etc.

Here are the four ATV's i'm looking at currently. They're all local to me.

  1. 2014 Arctic Cat 500 XT - ~32hp - $6,324
  2. 2015 Can-Am Outlander L 450 - ~38hp - $6,399.00 (five year warranty!)
  3. 2015 Polaris Industries Sportsman 570 - ~44hp - $6,499.00
  4. 2015 Polaris Industries Sportsman ETX - ~30hp - $5,999.00 (thrown in because its cheap)

Some are from different dealers.. i might be able to play them off each-other to get one cheaper than the other..

Help me out fellas.

Don't get the ETX, I had one for a month and sold it. Definitely not a workhorse. I like Yamahas but can't complain about Can ams, just curious why you're not looking at a 570 Can am as it would easily blow the other choices out of the water

II was looking at the can am 450 because its at the same price point as the others.

I like the Sportsman 570 out of those. They make great power and I believe they are currently running promotions. I see them new for $5200 or so at dealers.

Hmm.. Link? My local has it at $6300... I'd jump on it for that price

Are you Canadian or live in the south?

Verry south... Florida

Go with the can am. Can't beat a five year warranty. By the time the warranty runs out you'll want a bigger machine anyways. Warranty will keep it in good condition for trade in lol

I was just restating what the op posted. IF it came with a 5 year warranty it's a no brainer. My can-am came with a 3 year warranty 5 years ago. I'm biased though, I love can-am atvs and SxS. Rotax engines man. I'm sitting at 4800km and 200hrs. Haven't had many problems

I own a 570 (2014) and its a great machine for the price... i got mine for 6800$can OTD (im in canada, montreal)....

If they do offer the 5 years warranty on the 450 L you might wanna consider it... but im pretty sure they are back to 6 months and you have to pay extra for warranty.

AC are alright but out of the loop at this point... even their new machine is behind Can-am and Polaris.

not looking at a honda? i know the 500 rubicon is a nice bike, and the new ones have diffrential lock in the front. they are also the only non-belt drive on the market.

Crazy expensive though.

but worth it :) i see a lot more 20+ year old hondas still running, than any other brand

I wouldn't mind a Honda, they seem a bit more pricey in my area

they are one hell of a workhorse though. however, with pricing on the rubicon, they are pretty competitive. also, like i say, now they are fully independant, and have diff lock. you can also order them with or without power steering & es, which makes them a lot more affordable.

The Sportsman 570 is a great bike. So is the Can Am. Stay away from Artic Cat. They've always been shit and they'll continue to be shit.

Number 3. I just bought 3 of them. EXT you will not be happy, you have to stop it completely to engage 4 wheel drive.

I think if i can get the 5 year warranty I'm leaning towards the canam, if not, the Polaris... But I've yet to actually sit down on one in person to get a feel.

Edit: Looking at the specs the cans is 3" shorter, which might be good for center of gravity, but might be uncomfortable for someone tall like me

My Yamaha 450 is even shorter, and you don't notice it while riding, only when loading do you notice that small of a difference. From my experience Polaris is a trail quad, while Can am is more of a workhorse from a ride perspective

my friend just bought the canam and does not like it, mostly he said because the heat on his legs, he is trading it in for the 570. and i bought the 5 year warranty for $600 per unit. and i just paid almost a thousand less then what you posted.shop around, they are considered left overs now,the 2016 are out. what state are you in?

2
FourIVOP•

In Florida... Been shopping arroundntoday

I own an arctic cat (2004) love it. Never had an issue. My Neighbor has 2x 2014 cats, and has had issues. Wether arctic cat issues or shitty mechanics at our local dealer .. Toss up, I'm not sure. Both of them have had same issues tho. Personally, at those prices I'd buy the can am. I'll be going can am next year probably.

Meh, the only thing on your list that would interest me is the Can-Am although I'd get the 570 version instead of the 450. Well worth it for $400.

Of course by then you're spending enough you could probably get that new Yamaha Kodiak 700.

Honda or Yamaha or Suzuki. Polaris is crap as is can am. You will be happy they haven at warranty cause your gonna need it.

I go riding nearly every weekend. The Hondas ad yamahas don't die and the suzukis are ok too. I've towed out countless Polaris and can ams its almost funny

There is a reason honda isn't cheap. They are impossible to kill.

I have a Honda Rancher and a Honda TRX 250. I also own a Polaris Sportsman 400 and a Polaris Sportsman 500, all over 10 years old. Both of the Honda's are out of commission. The TRX is locked up and the Rancher is stuck in first gear. Both Polaris machines are still running strong. Also, the Polaris' have been abused far more than the Honda's as we prefer riding them over the Honda's.

Good for you. I usually wind up dragging everything but Hondas out cause the rest fail. My buddy is constantly trying to fix his Polaris. Constantly breaking.

Did you buy the Hondas new or used?
