Pros:

  • You can stay connected to LTE during a call
  • If you are in one of the 2G to LTE conversion areas, you can call in HD quality
  • If you are in a 700 MHz only area you will be able to take calls and more importantly be able to call 911
  • If you are connecting to WiFi, you can seamlessly transfer to WiFi calling without dropping the call
  • (There's confusion about this, but it takes NO data)

Cons:

  • Unlocked phones typically do not have this (save for the Nexus 6/5X/6P or iPhone 6/6+/6S/6S+
  • Can be weird sometimes - dial tones don't go through for some people
  • Calls sometimes don't connect
  • Doesn't even work sometimes

I'd say if it doesn't cause any problems, you should leave it on.

Something that isn't mentioned is that the sooner most users have phones that support VoLTE, the sooner T-Mobile can start shutting down 2G and 3G. This means more spectrum for LTE which means faster speeds.

No problem!

Just want to note that VoLTE is a requirement of Band 12 so if you're in a band 12 area on a no band 12 phone, you can still call 9-1-1 as it uses other network. The only case this wouldn't apply is if your phone is Band 12 with no VoLTE which is specific phones not supplied by tmobile.

Shouldn't use data. Pros are calls dial out faster plus you have access to LTE data instead of HSPA while on the phone.

The cons is it's turned using an unlocked phone into a giant PITA.

What do you mean by that??

Unlocked phones not certified for Voice over LTE by T-Mobile generally don't support Band 12.

I have an Apple unlocked iphone 6. I have the VoLTE option. Band 12 must not be a requitement

No, but if band 12 is present the phone has to be certified for VoLTE (iPhones are certified).

No reason to not have it on. Doesn't drain your battery and you always have the older technologies to fall back on.

Pros, sounds better, cons uses data maybe.

Are we certain it counts against your data? That would seem odd to me. Why exactly would it sound better?

Edit - You are right! - it is supposed to sound better

VoLTE does not use any of your data.
