Glowing logo

So why doesn't MS have a glowing logo on the back of their Surface line?

So you can use it as a mirror.

Worst windows ever. They just turn into mirrors.

Probably in the interest of keeping the devices as thin as possible, given the limited internal space.

Even Apple has ditched the glowing logo on the regular MacBook now, probably for the same reason.

They ditched it because of the way the new screens are designed. On the old units it was just a transparent insert against the existing LCD backlight. If you shine a flashlight at the back of a Macbook Pro you can see the logo on the screen.

I MUST try that now!

that would take a bit of your battery which would suck, plus 4 squares lighting wouldnt look as kewl imo

That was my first initial thought, you would lose more battery

unless they can just cut a hole right to the backlight, then it won't take any extra power, but they might have lighting issues on the screen.

This is how I always assumed it worked. Why create a new light source when you have a giant one right there in the screen?

Usually that's how it's done. It still means components need to be moved around, and it needs some space still. All that can negatively impact battery life.

That's how macbook apple glow works.

Why would it need one?

Branding mostly. You can easily see it out in public when in use by someone...
