Poker:
~~
All the cards are held in your hand
A rainbow coloured full house and yet you stand,
You’ve dealt your family a pair, red numbered two,
But deal me in? I still wait for you,
Push you away if I demand.
~~
Driving fast, rough hands, held knuckles,
Hurried embraces, unclipped buckles,
The crowd’s gaze, your rising fear,
Someone will notice, they’ll shout queer,
If you were alone, you’re not, we’re doubles.
~~
You can win though you still fold,
Then with me you seem so bold,
The next hand you see a numbered straight,
If only you were, I wouldn’t wait,
And longing to play, I’ve no chance for gold.
~~
Games we play, you call me a queen,
Though card I am is never seen,
My suit of choice is my heart,
My other choice to never part,
Your family waits for you to come clean.
~~
Your grip in this game, a tight choker,
Your last hand, two, a joker,
And I wonder why
...did I ever play poker.
