Looking for a space/tech sim
I've been wanting to play a certain type of game recently, and while I can't think of anything exactly like it, I feel like it must exist. I've even started developing it myself in Unity, but I'd really like to play it now. It's kind of minecraft in space, where you try to advance your civilization (in terms of energy output, along the kardashev scale) and explore the galaxy.
You start off with near-future tech (e.g. asteroid mining, no interstellar travel) and use gathered resources to build research buildings, ship yards, power plants, etc. Research faster engines, more efficient mining lasers, or whatever you want to focus on. You work your way along a tech tree, eventually unlocking dyson swarms, wormhole technology, etc., increasing your energy budget and letting you explore more of the universe.
To start with, your engines are only enough to get you to the very closest asteroids, but as the game progresses you gain access to the outer planets, nearby stars, and eventually the entire galaxy (or maybe further). These new technologies require a lot of energy though, so you have to build up your energy tech to keep up.
What games are there with this type of gameplay? There are obviously a lot of space exploration games, but I find that most of them focus on the space combat aspect. I'm more interested in the resource management/simulation aspects.

Kerbal Space Program is literally this.
Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. I'm looking for something futuristic, building technologies that take you beyond our solar system. Advanced energy production, interstellar travel, wormholes, etc. You start out only being able to reach some nearby asteroids, but building newer and newer technology that lets you colonize and harvest the entire galaxy.
Kerbal has an extreme amount of free mods available that will pretty much allow you to play any type of scenario you can think of.
