No more $5 "No show" rider fee?
I had a no show and emailed Ubed, this is their response:
There is no longer a cancellation fee for our partners and riders. If you’ve waited for a rider for 5 minutes and have not made contact with them, you are welcome to cancel the trip and go back online to receive another request.

not every market. just a random selection:
yuma, santa fe, phoenix, montreal, LA, eastern idaho, baltimore, boise, SF, and san diego all show cancellation fees of $5.
however, dallas, san antonio, and houston all show no cancellation fees.
I don't understand why anyone drives for Dallas.
10 cents per minute, 85 cents per mile. NO cancellation fee. Is these the lowest rate in the entire country?
Why are the rates so low here? Too much supply, not enough demand? Is there another reason?
I don't understand why anyone would drive for these rates if there is no surge. The no cancellation fee seems absolutely absurd, why the fuck would they change the cancellation fee? If I get a request, I spend gas to get to the pick-up location, then wait 5 minutes, and if they decide to change their mind, I literally waste gas and time and get NOTHING for it? WTF.
no. detroit is only 75c a mile, tho they're 15c/min and a $5 fee. but you never make money on the cancellations or the waiting time, only on the mileage.
ftfy.
you're saying you wouldn't drive in the city even if it was surging?
i haven't driven in over a year, after spending a year doing 5000 rides, beating the fuck out of my car, and constantly worrying about insurance with those insane motherfuckers on mckinney avenue.
and, oh, yeah, having my pay cut without notice and without recourse. they cut fares three times while i was driving; i never made more money after one than i did before, despite all that bloviating bullshit about how greater volume means greater revenue. it just meant less pay and more drivers to compete with, which meant longer deadhead time for me.
Lower cost of living. It all evens out
Unbelievable, spend 10 min driving towards the "no show", and waited 10 more. Thanks Uber!
God, had one of these after the Blazers game last night. Took me 10 minutes to get three blocks to the Moda Center. Pax moved several blocks away because she thought that'd be easier for me. Cancelled even though she begged me to find her, even though she didn't know where she was.
Weekend PDX driver here. Had a drunk chick get sarcastically angry with me because I didn't want to go find her after she sent me to the wrong place. Her pin drop was near 12th and Broadway, She was in SW gardens 10-15 minutes away.
It will hit every market eventually.
Milwaukee has no fee as well.
Dallas still has cancellation fees, though they don't show on the website for some reason.
HOWEVER, I had 3 last week. None of them hit my dashboard as fees, and each time I had to use the support chat to specifically request a cancellation fee be charged.
Each time, I specifically asked "why do I have to request this? Is the fee being phased out?" and received the answer "no, it's just taking 24-48 hours to post to accounts now" (?? bullshit answer)
Hoping you don't catch it and they can keep the whole fiver.
