Robust squad management tools might solve the WvW rewards problem

I realised that, with more robust squads, ArenaNet finally have a way to reward the right people (i.e. not farmers) for playing WvW: if they know that a 'squad' has succeeded in an event, and there's enough people in that squad, then they can award the squad leader special bonus gold and maybe replacement blueprints.

Edit: apparently people aren't aware that it's usually the commander (e.g. the squad leader) that places blueprints. They cost money.

This wouldn't even be that inflationary, because it's one person getting a payout per tower or keep every five minutes, max. In the grand scheme of things, this just isn't that much. The risk is that you'll have a lot more commanders coming in to farm gold who aren't willing to co-operate, but then if they don't get people to co-operate with them, they're not going to be very effective at gold farming, now, are they. (If you aim it right, and have it be in the realm of 1-2g, that's a lot for one person but it starts to look pretty bad for the time spent spread amongst a whole WvW squad.

Actually, you could do the same thing for defence events, now I think about it: if you have a squad, and enough of the squad contributed to the defence event, it'd be safe to give the squad leader rewards. It's a lot easier to measure, in aggregate, if a defence event succeeded than it is to work out if each individual player was contributing to an event.

Anyway, looking forward to the comments telling me how I don't understand WvW. Put 'em right down in the box.

so basically a group of people put the effort in, and one person gets more rewards. not really seeing how that's an improvement.

Not only that but this just encourages toxicity and zerging. Things i thought we was aiming to reduce?

Who's placing siege equipment in this scenario? One person has to spend their resources, and it's usually the commander.

And "usually" only commander gets siege donation from the zerg.

Ya i dont think your idea is gon work

I disagree. I don't see how you spending 300g on a fancy badge should give you amazing income above everyone else on the map.

Nor do i think people who run around leading the zerg 24/7 should get rewarded more than the rest of us.

What about defenders? Scouts? small groups? Your change doesn't solve anything, It just gives the commander more gold with no actual reason behind it. Siege is not expensive.

This will just cause multiple commanders to try to lead the same zerg to exploit the system. No thanks.

Are defenders, scouts and small groups putting up siege equipment?

WvW commanders have to spend a lot more money to lead an attack.

Are defenders, scouts and small groups putting up siege equipment?

Yes.

Why are they not putting up siege? Just because their not attacking doesnt mean they're not preventing attacks or setting up pre-siege.

Think you're on to a nice idea, just the way you formulated it doesn't really sound attractive.
I'm sure there's some nice ways to implement this :)
