Official: January 2016 will be my last month in day jail
You may remember my post quite awhile ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Howtoquitworking/comments/3erk5j/a_case_study_the_plan_to_quit_working/
The news has been broadcast to my supervisor and higher ups that I will be leaving the company that I work for at an undefined date. This is both tantalizing and exciting all at the same time. I'm very roughly around my savings goal of $40,000. I have about $10,000 in a worthless 401k (losing money) that I will cash out if needed, only to pocket $6,000 with taxes. (Last resort money.) I'll roll over the money in stock options that I will be paid out to another 401k that I won't touch until retirement (whenever that is, 75?).
I recently read a book that I picked up over the weekend called Great to Grit, excellent book if you need a swift kick in the ass. I'm over holding myself back, and I'm confident that I will make it happen out on my own. (I did interview for a safety net job, however, I think not getting the position is a gift.)
Progress so far:
- Moved local business into new office space (7 employees!, doing about $7-8k/month, previous year was $5k at this point)
- Inquired for business licensing in HI
- When I was on island in October I purchased a mailing address
- Got business listed on Google Places/Bing Places
- Signed up for virtual phone system, transferred local number
- Website for Hawaii business is about 65-70% complete, majority remaining is backend/administration development -- May develop so that it can be expanded to multi-state operation [father is nearing retirement age, and needs something to do]
Stuff that needs to get done:
- Website :P
- Write marketing material (sales letters, Google Adwords, Facebook Ads)
- Train/increase responsibility of local business manager (business i'm leaving behind) or prepare it for sale
- Schedule stuff to be shipped
- Sell items that won't be coming with me
- Buy shorts
