Navigation Lights.

DISCUSSION

Just curious about how you work navigation lights. Currently, I have a ship based upon previous designs that have currently a maritime styled starboard and port light. Green and red respectively. Now my ship is rather tubular, lacking any large wings, just some side panels. (Think of Halo's Stewart-class frigate.) The lights are located on the sides of the superstructure.

So what are your setups on navigation and exterior lights?

I followed the real world example of the Cygnus craft with white on top, red to port, green on starboard and yellow on the keel.

As for the blink rates, I copied the rate for buildings aircraft hazard lights of 40 flashes per minute.

Thanks for the links! I like it.

You might want to consider looking at aviation lighting instead of maritime lighting. That kind of lighting is placed with the three-axis movement through air (in this case, space) more in mind.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. Wouldn't be hard. Maritime just has the port and starboard, aviation adds a few more. I'm trying to think of a proper setup as well with regular exterior lights to keep the ship visible in well... dark space :/ (Except when you don't want to be seen.)

I was using red And green too but on my stations to make night flying and landing less dangerous.

Using airplane/airport lighting makes way more sense so now I have to investigate. ಠ_ಠ

I sometimes do stuff like this lighting up parts of the ship by sticking lights in nooks to light up parts of the ship.
