[Expansion] Can we please get the other movement skills in line with Whirling Blades? #dontnerfjustbuff
Whirling blades is just ridiculous with almost zero investment even with zero attack speed thanks to faster attacks. Now im not saying it should be nerfed (please dont) just BUFF the other movement skills so that if i dont use the skill the game doesnt feel like slow motion.
The game is simply ten times more fun to play with whirling blades, running around from pack to pack really reduces the player's engagement level, this is definitely something to be looked into. When i use Whirling Blades i always push it trying to go faster and faster its a real rush the lack of which simply doesnt allow me to enjoy any other kind of build.

People need to stop with this "never nerf anything" bullshit. Never nerfing things is a great way to get insane power creep, just because it makes you feel more powerful doesn't means its healthy for the game.
And yes, the other movement skills generally do suck and need to be brought up a bit, but Whirling Blades being so fast to the point where a caster with literally zero investment in attack speed is interested in using it over walking/quicksilvers means its blatantly too good. I really don't understand why they ever adjusted it in 2.0 in the first place, it was fine before and lockstep was already a huge buff to its usability as a travel skill.
its weakness is that it cant cross gaps or ledges
it has speed to make up for it. more line movement, less utility.
it also has a fixed minimum range which is sometimes negativ
it also gets stuck on rocks and stuff

Sure but anyone with half a brain will use flame dash as well for those situations where they need to cross a gap. It's what all the vaal sparkers are doing

While in general I agree that "don't nerf just buff" is a really simplistic, ignorant attitude, in this case I think I'd be 100% in favor of non-dagger/claw/sword builds getting their movement options buffed to be comparable (whether that means buffing existing movement skills or adding new ones).
Traversing enemy-less areas isn't interesting, and there are no core game design reasons that it shouldn't be possible to do it incredibly quickly (or that the time it takes should be heavily dependent on your weapon). It's just something that naturally happens when you have non-linear environment. Giving every build a map-traversal skill on par with whirling blades wouldn't break the game in the same way that buffing every offensive skill to match the best offensive skill would. All it would do, as far as I can tell, is make the game more fun and less tedious.
You're saying being able to move around incredibly quickly has no ramifications on combat.
That's a fair point.
As difficult as it would be to implement, an "ideal" would be that if there aren't any creatures within x+y distances of you, it "opens" the gate on things like flame dash to function more like whirling blades. As it is, whirling blades lets you move around quickly in combat, based on your attack speed - I see little reason to restrict this capacity on other builds, though I'm open to ideas of why it would be a bad idea on casters and non-blade melee and archers... that is, why do the skills that use whirling blades specifically deserve special treatment?

I just want the other movement skills to not require holding shift to function properly.
I agree. The fastest clearspeed build in the game (vaal spark) uses whirling blades over quicksilvers or any movement speed on boots because it's simply faster. It's somewhat ridiculous that an ability can completely replace regular traveling.
Even if it wasn't faster, they would most likely use it over quicksilver because they use all 5 flasks for defense.
I don't mind the ability replacing regular traveling. Plenty of builds do that with Leap Slam or Lightning Warp too. Frankly, running through empty areas with quicksilvers isn't fun and I'm perfectly happy if movement skills can speed up that process. While power creep is a concern, I think the game's more fun if your clear speed is mostly limited by how fast you kill monsters and not how fast you travel around between fights.
But if they're okay with the convenience that whirling blades provides, it would definitely be nice if they buffed the convenience of the other movement skills a bit. Leap Slam isn't too bad, lightning warp's okay with some investment but sucks without it, and Flame Dash and Blink Arrow really just feel awful compared to the incredible convenience of whirling blades.

This is basically whats going on in Diablo 3.
Dude come on...there is so much stuff in path of exile right now that is straight cum dumpster tier. Ice Spear, ele hit, shield charge, detonate dead, etc. Nerfing has its place but jesus christ everything in this game is so nerfed these days.

Oh yeah we wouldn't want power creep on movement skills, would ruin the game if you didn't have to design your character around getting between two points instead of what you do once you get there.
You should go play wildstar i think they like your design philosophy. NO FUN ALLOWED!
