Remind me to never go to a Polish hospital. I also now really appreciate US hospital food even more.

most US Hospital food is garbage, the same stuff they feed inmates and college students. My mom got orange juice made in china, at a brand new cancer facility in SF, I guess that's better that just bread. Apparently its easier to install 60" TVs than feed your patients healthy food.

I work in healthcare and have been to our ER several times. I always refuse the food, it's bland and usually unidentifiable.

I kinda find this hard to believe.. maybe for a type of restricted diet or something. If this is what every patient is served, that's sad

Unfortunately that's true. I'm Polish and i've been to hospital once. Unless you have family that can bring you decent food everyday you're screwed as with such meals getting well isn't an easy thing to do.

Edit: grammar

It's only the breakfast food.

While it isn't fancy, they should have some oatmeal at least. It fits their budget of apparently a few pennies per meal, and I assume from the (instant?) coffee that they have a microwave to heat it up. I understand that they need to spent money carefully, but if patients are malnourished, they might never leave.

the hospital must get a good price on bread and butter perhaps they can't afford to have kitchens and kitchen staff?

I speak from first-hand experience.

The food at both Saint James Hospital and Saint Vincent Hospital, both in Dublin, is seriously icky.

Is butter a side dish in Poland?

I spent 2 weeks in Poland last year and got to visit a hospital. I was shocked how disgusting the place was: dirty floors, holes in walls, cracked glass, the toilet was missing the seat and there was no paper.

If you guys think this is awful, keep in mind they might think it tastes good.
