Speed Multipliers: What the Hell Do They Do?

It's driving me nuts, guys. I've pored through the books and I still can't figure out what speed multipliers do in the mechanics that is different from stride. Have I missed something glaringly obvious or is anyone else as confused as I am?

I've double-checked the Fight! chapter in BWG and it always refers to stride for engaging and positioning. Since speed tests are used to traverse distance in a time-sensitive situation, I can't think of any other situations where speed multipliers come into play. At the same time, I don't think Luke & Co would have randomly introduced a useless mechanic. Help please?

Speed multipliers were the mechanic in the older editions. Gold uses stride instead. You're simply looking in the wrong book!

Edit: Actually, where are you seeing speed multipliers mentioned? They shouldn't be in Gold at all.

He might be using roll20, whose character sheets still have speed multiplier instead of stride. It threw me off too, when I've first used it, thinking I've missed something in the book.

Ah, yeah. That would make sense. The Roll20 sheet is great save for a few little things like that.

Monster Burner, actually. Which explains my confusion.

Yep. Makes sense. The rule of thumb for conversions is to double the speed multiplier to determine stride.

Good to know! Thanks for the clarification.
