Help me with this MG side control escape?

Wondering if anyone struggled with it before working it out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7vmzcc3ldA

About 2:18 is where the escape happens.

I have two problems:

(1) I can't sit up. Am I just not doing it hard enough? Is there a trick to it? Angles?

(2) If I do manage to sit up, the guy crawls to my back. Am I just not stiffarming hard enough? Should I counter?

Hopefully this isn't too vague.

Hip roll?

You can see him use it here. (It's at 1:53, in case YouTube doesn't play it from the right spot.)

Artechoke Media has a whole course on this escape system, by the way. I'd say it's helped me a lot.

Perfect. Thanks, I'll check the course out.

  1. To sit up you need to pendulum yourself up by first lifting your legs directly up (keeping them straight and together), locking your core and rocking back on your shoulders so that your hips are off the ground... As you rock forward, (keeping your core locked, and your legs straight and together) pull your legs downward as you sit up, try to keep your body in a 90* angle the whole time. Last important tip is to constantly be pressing them down to your waist as the best you possibly can (the farther from your head the better) and pull your butt back once you manage to sit up (butt scoot).

  2. To prevent the back take, continue to butt scoot and make sure to have a secure grip on their collar, if you don't have a grip right beside or around their neck, then it won't work. Also, it's not about stiff arming harder, it's about the alignment in your arm that keeps them away, so keep your arm completely straight as you press with your grip. As long as you keep their head as far away from your head as possible, they shouldn't be able to get to your back.

Thank you! I'll give it a whirl.
