Something a black belt mentioned to me in passing, and I didn't get a chance to ask more.

I was saying that I feel pressure on my knee when holding the guard closed. And I think he said that it's about hip flexibility, and that the thighs should be rotated. Not sure how to describe it. I basically hold my legs as though I'm standing front on. The inside of my knee and thigh are in contact with the opponent. He was saying - I think - to turn the knees outwards so that the back of the knee, hamstring etc are in contact with the opponent instead.

Hope someone can shed some light.

Just wondering. I've got two locations that work really well for me. Was wondering whether I can pay once and train at either, or whether they're separate things under the same banner. If not classes, then what about open mats?

Just wondering if anyone else find they run hot and cold a lot, or, more to the point, has figured out a routine to run hot more often. Some nights I just feel light and mobile, other times I'm like a beached walrus. Trying to see if there are things like food, sleep, coffee and whatever else that add up to a good night. Because good nights are really good.

Wondering if anyone struggled with it before working it out:

About 2:18 is where the escape happens.

I have two problems:

(1) I can't sit up. Am I just not doing it hard enough? Is there a trick to it? Angles?

(2) If I do manage to sit up, the guy crawls to my back. Am I just not stiffarming hard enough? Should I counter?

Hopefully this isn't too vague.

Help me out, r/bjj!

I've been working on my closed guard overhook, and have run into a problem.

I get a good overhook, grab the opposite lapel, and then my partner shoves his big head into my jaw and puts his free hand on my non-overhooking bicep.

I can relieve pressure on the jaw by extending the hips, but can't seem to hip out to the overhook side. I tried getting a butterfly hook into the non-overhooking side, but I can't seem to do anything with it - his leg feels too heavy. Am I on the right track? Is the butterfly the way to go? Should I be getting on my side instead of lying back?

Thank you in advance.
