[News] PSN Trophies have been released, including the name of the USN ship in Kancolle Kai

News

Here's the list of trophies. The USN ship is Iowa, which isn't a huge surprise.

アイオワ
アイオワ級戦艦一番艦「アイオワ」が艦隊合流!

Also of note is that there's a "Historical" difficulty.

"Historical" ? So basically whatever you do you'll be defeated in the end ?

13
Metropical•

Must sound fun, going against basically an Abyssal force twice your size with weaponry far ahead of your own and slow resource gain while they field ridiculous fleet comps to stop you...

I like a challenge~

"Losing is fun!" DF style Kantai.

Metropical•

This is it... This is the game for... MASOADMIRALS!

7
TrueVerthandi•

Make it so that you get raids on the home port and you potentially get a game over, or maybe shipgirls could be abducted by abyssal snatchers who then turn against you as a boss-class enemy, or tantrum spirals with a new morale mechanic, or Dyson megabeasts, or.......

Just imagine the outrage....

You mean every Kancolle events ever?

Maybe it'll be an endurance/survival mode.

And now we wait for hardcore japanese players to screencap the new ship CG.

SBelmont•

You mean Live2D Model :)

5
mignon-ette•

Who's gonna be the first person to touch Iowa's boob in live2D?

2
SpehsMahreen•

inb4 the devs completely trolls us and Iowa turns out to be a flat loli.

3
Tsutsuko•

Still great news none the less !

Edits : Also looks like some events are coming back like summer 2014 ( saw MI and AL ). As well as summer 2015 ? (FL)

Marrige is also part of the game.

日本艦隊の全戦艦が集結した!... makes me wonder if they'll add more Japanese ships.

HQ level is still in the game.

Damekons are in the game for w/e that's worth.

There are two achievements specifically for getting Yamato and Iowa, so I'm guessing Iowa is the equivalent of Yamato?

Historically, yes, the Iowa class ships were the direct competitor to the Yamato class. They had pretty much objectively superior weapons, ammunition, and importantly radars + fire control though.

It's beautiful

I don't really think of the Iowas as the same sort of ship as the Yamatos, nor were they designed as such. The Yamatos were designed to be the baddest thing on a line of battle and the Iowas were designed to operate with fast carrier task forces. Furthermore, the Iowas were designed without the knowledge of Yamato capabilities.

So basically Iowa is the ultimate FBB and Yamato is the ultimate ship of the line.

DeyGotWingsNow•

I can actually see them doing this. Making Iowa a FBB will be the perfect way to make her distinguishable from the Yamato class, while still keeping the status she deserves.

Too many people will be pissed off if they made Iowa a Yamato clone, for various reasons.

FuryTomic•

A FBB for Iowa seems reasonable, since it beats Kongou's original top speed. It's pretty much the same speed as a DD. but I would assume also that she wouldn't be able to be used in certain events and missions when the Iowa DOES in fact come to kancolle

2
nipaa1412•

To be fair, isn't Yamato designed to be a FBB as well? To keep up with the carrier task force

2

Yes and no. Yamato was designed to be the keystone of Kantai Kessen, and her 27kt speed was part of a doctrine that asserted a faster line of battle should have certain advantages over a slower one. The U.S. Ships after NC were being built at 27kt for the same reason, and that's why Montana was that speed. 27kt ships like NC and SD slowed down their carrier groups, but it was an acceptable trade because of their godly aa umbrella. Qualitatively, a Yamato has a fraction of the AA screening power of those ships and uses more fuel to boot.

So none of those 27kt BBs, while technically FBBs, were designed to operate alongside carriers, but some of them were used that way because the trade was worth it. The Yamato was never considered a carrier screen and, if she were to take on that role, wouldn't do even as well as a stock North Carolina.

Iowa was considered a special, high speed 32kt snowflake, after which the USN would go back to completing their 27kt gun line. While both of these ships could perform the function of the other, it wasn't what they were best at.

Regardless of being a different sort of ship, it is still true that the Iowa was more or less superior to the Yamato in most significant ways, which was the point.

1
thereisno314inpie•

Yeah, but in the context of their "place" in their respective fleets, they occupy the same position (flagships designed to operate with carrier fleets)

FuryTomic•

There was actually a different battleship class that was almost placed in production for the US Navy, which could have changed everything in the naval history. Search up, Montana Class Battleship. It would have been the fiercest competitor of the Yamato.

2
thereisno314inpie•

Yeah, but in terms of existing battleships, the Iowa and the Yamato classes were direct competitors; theoretically, if both sides (the IJN and USN) had completed their planned battleship lines the end-game for battleships could've been the Montana class against the Yamato Kai (Super Yamato?) class.

FuryTomic•

I would assume this "Super Yamato" would like have a piece of technology the Japanese were trying to build, but never gotten to planning stage or development. I would agree that something like that would have happened. Through some simulations (Eg. World of Warships haha) The Montana class would still get rekted by the Yamato, in terms of guns and armaments. But the Montana class still beats the Yamato by a 4th turret installment.

1
HiroAnobei•

Yep, though I was referring more of an in-game equivalent, like how Yamato is the be-all-end-all of battleships, so the Iowa is probably the US equivalent to her in-game.
