He's that book on your shelf that you forgot to finish, That cigarette that got wet in the rain, and Those strawberries that got mushy in the back of the fridge. The same book that they talked about when they first met and the same cigarette they tried to share to get away from the noise of the party. He's that list of songs you wrote down that you later stole from limewire, so you could play at a party and be recognized for your originality. He's that guy that would wake up at 4am to pick you up from a house you got stuck at because your ride bailed.

She was that book you lied about reading so that you could see the slightest inclination of a smile on her face for finding someone possibly like-minded to her. The smile that is now canon for every women you'll ever consider dating. She was most sunsets and every sunrise. She was the friendship he use to have with his sister before she discovered heroin and grew up. She was that camel cigarette you tried sharing in the backyard before getting caught in rain and finding an excuse to hold each other.

They were those people you would text to find out who was having a party that weekend and later wouldn't see until the end of the night. They were those people that would do Coke and have sex in the back of other people's cars, the very people that introduced you to Coke for your first time. They were the people that would go on dates that didn't cost anything because neither of them had any money, and frankly still don't. They were those people that tried killing themselves when half a country tried to separate them but managed to survive despite the damage.

These were the people I thought would never separate, the people that I thought were the poster children for what love was. I thought i knew what love was.
