So how will 'very large' settlements work?

As I've been progressing through, gaining more villagers, and expanding my settlement, It got me thinking...

Exactly how will we manage settlements with 30+ villagers efficiently? The mechanics and UI seem to only be convenient for small villages, below 25 villagers.

For instance, I want to make a group of farmers target only some containers for storing food inside, instead of every container that allows food to be placed inside. Example: Farmer group A places food in crate containers 1, 2, and 3. Containers 4, 5, and 6 allow food to be placed in them, but I told the farmers from group A to only target 1, 2, and 3, even if 1, 2, and 3 are full. THEN I tell Farmer group B to target 4, 5, and 6 only.

Another thing being how I'd want multiple crafters, but in separate locations, only taking certain jobs I designate to them. Sort of like categorizing villagers into districts, where I can make them work on separate projects instead of ALL workers all at once building a single house. (Though, I haven't gotten as far as multiple crafters, so I have no idea if they do currently take separate jobs)

Would any of this be a future mechanic for larger settlements? Or is this game going to stick to smaller amounts of villagers and expand on those mechanics? :)

I'd be completely fine with both either way. I like the thought of a bustling city, but I also like the thought of a small, specialized village, sticking it out, possibly as a good trade hub!

They definitely plan on supporting much larger settlements. In fact, the third type of Human is one that is meant to make a bunch of small settlements expanding all across the world, loosely connected to each other.
I think they confirmed a long time ago that you'd be able to assign certain villagers to certain housing. So you'll be able to assign certain crafters to their own 'shop' too.

You are right! If you look at their trello site, it's on their current to do list. Player assigned beds/housing.

Look into the game "Banished" I think you might enjoy it (I'm not a promoter that's a serious suggestion I really enjoy both games)

I'm not sure how large-scale you are talking about. 50 people and two-three farmers is plenty. I've only needed one of every profession other than footman and farmers at 50-70 citizens (maybe having an exta shepard would be nice), but building preferences may very. For distant trips, I fill up gold chests with food and send them along with a table, chairs and sometimes beds to whereever they're going.

I think the most annoying thing about largish settlements is that footmen seem to only patrol right around the camp standard nowadays, where no monsters spawn anyways. So the works at the edge of camp risk getting killed before footmen can get there. Generally its just regular workers who I don't care about and will replace quickly, but sometimes its someone like the shepard whose high level and I don't have spares. You can set them to defend an area, but if they refuse to eat even if food is right next to them, its not really useful.

Couldn't you just...move the town standard?

Probably, but my towns generally grow in all directions - if I moved it to one end of town, then the opposite end would be even less protected.
