False Regrets
A soft sun sets on a Thursday afternoon
The diner’s light counters the first glimpses of darkness …it’s that late already?
A neglected, almost empty coffee mug sits next to the figure.
She sits, waiting …for nothing to change
The shadows disappear on the adjacent street
Gone but not forgotten, they will return …she notes
But this loneliness lingers as she relishes her few moments of solace.
It always haunts her, but a change of scenery is nice …away from the everyday
She contemplates calling him, telling him everything.
Her mind races and the internal stress builds
But her body refuses to react,
But the phone sits still,
The coffee mug sits still,
Her life sits still
