Turning the keys

Ryn sits nervously on the couch in his living room. His omnitool is open, broadcasting a small chat window a few feet in front of him. His hands reach up to his forehead, trying to rub a headache away. He finally looks up to the shadowy figure on the other end of the comm.

Okay, so, to recap... I managed to trace the inheritance to a dead end, you doctored the default clause. Balat managed to mass produce fake records for the company hiatus... And we upgraded the old contracts to modern, viewable versions, right?

S: Yeah. Everything is in place, and we're about to plant this information into the Haliat database. But... its up to you to sell the whole deal. If old Ventus doesn't believe you...

Ryn smiles and waves the voice off Nah, he'll recognize me straight away. He owes me his life... I think we can both settle for helping me out here...

S: Whatever you say, Ordae. Just don't blow it. This work wasn't cheap.

You'll get the payment as soon as the company goes up. And don't worry... he grins We'll get there.

he slides the window away, standing up and stretching before walking over to the vidscreen across from the couch. He holds his omnitool on the corner, slowly drawing the information onto it, leaving a small remote on his wrist. He flips through the pages of data he and his old contacts had worked through, and past the massive documents for modern corporation establishment. He sighs, glad that he was about to bypass all the hassle and get up and running in no time. He hovers over the contact for Haliat Armory, holding his breath. He stops, stretches, and shakes his stupor away. He reaches for his visor, fitting it back into place as he begins the call. After a short while, a grizzled turian appears on the screen, obviously stunned to see a quarian on the other end

V: Who are you... and how did you get this contact?

Ryn smiles and walks closer to the screen

R: Ah, Ventus... You look good for a man who's supposed to be dead. the turian's face becomes shocked, mouth falling open as he finally realizes who he's talking to

V: Ryn'Ordae, you bastard! How the hell are you doing? You dropped off the map a year ago... I was afraid someone had uh... had gotten to you first. he chuckles, crossing his arms in front of him

R: Not quite yet, Ventus. his eyes flash behind the mask, obviously grinning And you wouldn't dare send anyone after me because they'd be sent back dead. But we'll have time for the 'pleasantries' later... I'm here to talk some business.

V: he tilts his head at the word Hmm, merc business? Or are you coming at me from the quarian angle?

R: I don't know if you can think back... way back. About 300 years or so... Haliat supplied surplus parts to a Rannoch based manufacturer called "Khelan Armory"? I've just called to let you know they're back online after a... small hiccup in production.

V: he narrows his eyes, still seeming to smile Is that so, Mister Ordae? And I suppose you're now representing their interests in re-establishing a partnership.

R: he slowly removes his mask Actually... as the iCEO, I'd like to remind you of at least 30, unfulfilled, non-negotiable delivery contracts that were in effect until satisfied. he flicks his wrist, delivering a large document of the old data to the turian, watching his face as he realized the legitimacy of them

V: So... well, you want us to complete these orders? That's a bit... extreme. 300 years, and if I recall correctly, it wasn't our fault you couldn't receive our shipments.

R: Ah, but if you'll check your databases, I'm sure you'll find that the orders were quite clear... And of course, we would be willing to negotiate newer, similar contracts... to your terms, of course.

V: he turns away, checking as to what Ryn said. Ryn takes the time to finally display his discomfort, breathing heavily to make up for his pounding heart rate. As Ventus turns back, Ryn restores his act Well, well, well... I'm guessing you pulled some strings, then... But never mind that, are you actually going to do something with this company, or are you just trying to shell it out?

R: he grins at him I've got at least 3, high demand rifles that could go into mass production as soon as I get parts. I know the supply line is a bit... hmm, fucked up right now? But if you advance me 2 million credits in reparations for breaking contract, and the remnant of our earlier orders... we will return not only with stockholder profits for you, but with new part orders in the future. I know Haliat has to be loaded with surplus right now...

V: ...you know what, Ryn? You stop riding me about the time you saved my life, and I'll do this for you. If we ever get to that point again, I want it through business, and not because you were smarter than your compatriots.

R: I think that sounded like a deal, Ven. I'll forward you the papers and declarations to sign, and get you a delivery coordinate very soon.

V: Alright... you know we'll have to do this more formally once you get past the first year, yes? But whatever, we'll get there when we do. Oh, and Ryn? Don't call me Ven.

R: Yes, sir. he smirks as he ends the call, before immediately collapsing into the sofa, shaking slightly. He taps out a quick message to his contacts, confirming that the deal went through, then brought up a draft classified ad, looking it over before sending it through, closing his eyes as it uploads to every possible outlet

Please... if you are any good at anything related to manufacturing, fabrications... hell, even construction. We're about to kick start some profits here, and I'm more than willing to share if you can help.

M: Good writing, amigo! Too bad Juf isn't super experienced in any of those fields.

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

M: Aside from people like weapons designers, and maybe testers, I'm planning on having alot of non-player people fill in these roles. Like, the next time you see Ryn, he'll say he's gotten over 500 applications in.

1
Juf-Sorahvas Avenger "spellcheck guy"•

M: Geez, that's a lot of workers...

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

M: Need to build a plant and warehouse, need to get assembly lines going for the start, can move to robotic stuff after awhile... And off, some will get turned away.

1
ZuliCurahvas Avenger•

M: even though he built himself a Laser weapon

1
Juf-Sorahvas Avenger "spellcheck guy"•

M: Huh. I suppose he did, didn't he?

1
ZuliCurahvas Avenger•

M: yup :P

1
Rimi-Yaelavas Avius•

You really did it, huh, Ryn? I don't know how you managed it...

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

The right people in the wrong places... he sights heavily I'm not looking forwards to my inbox tomorrow.

But, due to Haliat's recognition, I can easily submit for reinstatement on the Council's registered operations list, and after we produce some samples, I can start pushing even further with the rest of the galaxy.

Who knows? I might kickstart some fabrication setups here to supply our needs...

1
Rimi-Yaelavas Avius•

Good thing I got that safe open, I guess?

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

It's a great thing you got that open... I really appreciate it.

1
Rimi-Yaelavas Avius•

So, uh... when do you wanna go back and get those discs we left behind?

Sends resume consisting of a note and pictures of the rail gun when it was in his ship

Note: Can you do part time? You know this, but I built a mass effect field enhanced rail gun in my shop. I also have experience manufacturing high voltage capacitors, and fixing... most everything. I also have some ship schematics I designed. I'd love to see this stuff put to good use.

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

he laughs I don't know if I can help with the ship works, but some of those capacitors would help, especially if we move into actual armor.

Also, if you have anything to help with facility construction, I'd appreciate it. ...and don't you dare throw me a prefab building.

M: Again, nothing too involved, just trying to move some story pieces around.

1
00meatSeto'Yalas vas Junkball•

Are you kidding? I'm living in my last prefab. The best option I see is to find a warehouse in the old city and modernize it. If we find something that was already used for manufacturing, it might have the high voltage wiring I need. I can provide you with a list of manufacturing equipment that will be needed to start off with. I have some, and have limited manufacturing capacity, but not the sort of scale it sounds like you are going for.

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

he thinks for a second

Maybe modernize the warehouse, but I don't want to stay too close to the city... he snaps his fingers Wait, there's power and water under the highway south. As long as we build on that road, we'd have transport access, utilities, and wouldn't have to be too close.

Also, I know it sounds odd, but we're going to hand build the first run of weapons. We could use what machines you have, but as soon as we get into the black, I'll overhaul everything

1
00meatSeto'Yalas vas Junkball•

If we are hand building the first run, everything is already set up in my shop. We could use that till you are ready to move into a larger facility. If you can get some labor in, I can train them on the equipment.... I'll need to make some heat treating and coating equipment... not that bad though.

1
RoriQurun•

Oh! I'm a good handyman! I'm good with fabrication too! Not much at designing though. I can copy another design pretty easy, but I'm not enough of an engineer to make my own designs.

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

Just send some credentials to that address, and I'll put you in the running. Who knows who I'll need...

1
RoriQurun•

Resume:

3 years of service as a engineer/ mechnaic on the Tonbay.

  • Frequently fabricated replacement parts
  • Exceeded performance expectations and singlehandedly improved ship performance by 2.1% by improving existing wiring and heat distribution systems

2 weeks experience as a butter salesman

  • Sold one stick of butter, ate the rest.
1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

reviews the submission, getting hung up on the last entry

Um... I'm going to have to call some of the old crew of the Tonbay for reference... is that okay?

1
RoriQurun•

Oh wait whoops.

Teska, not Tonbay.

M: Forgot which ship lel.

1
michaeldrossMich'aeldross vas Rannoch•

M: Nicely done!

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

M: Thank!

2
michaeldrossMich'aeldross vas Rannoch•

M: No worries!

1
Juf-Sorahvas Avenger "spellcheck guy"•

M: So, Zuli brought up an interesting point to me yesterday... Juf does still have his portable laser cannon prototype, if Ryn is interested.

1
atariangamerOPRyn'Ordae nar Amstrad•

M: Hey, definitely bring it up! It'll be something to help work on and research. I'm going to get things sorted out so that by next week, I'll be free to start writing all the plans into motion.
