Base Seguin Review
So I'm making another review today, still figuring out how often I'm gonna make these. I've also discussed some other ideas to review players with some other users, some collaborative efforts, anyways let's get it.
Line: Seguin-Toews-Kane
Skating 9/10 Seguin has some good speed out there, his skating is explosive, I find that his acceleration allows him to get a good burst of speed off the go that can catch defenders flat footed and create breakaways for himself. He's able to keep up with any player on the rush and develop scoring chances that way. He is stronger on his skates than you'd think, he can shrug off smaller contact, but the bigger hitters can line him up if you don't evade properly, still though he doesn't get bumped around or bullied off the puck by any means.
Shooting 9/10 Seguin has an accurate and powerful shot, both his wrister and slapper perform well in game, if given a little bit of space he can tuck it top corner. I find that he can get his shot off better than some players when he is on the move, making him even more deadly on the rush. However, he can also set up for one-timers, and man does he have a ripper. He gets a lot behind it, it's never a bad option to hit him with a pass and try to crank one behind the goalie.
Hands 9.5/10 I find Seguin to have some filthy mitts. He can quickly execute dekes and string together moves to beat the defenders or create space in front of him to get an open lane for a shot. If you time the dekes well, it's tough to knock him off the puck, as he has good puck control. He handles smoothly, but not as much as I'd say Kane or Datsyuk do, I'd place Seguin just below those guys in that facet. However, he is about on par with his passing ability, I find him able to setup players very well, whether it's a routine pass, or threading it through a few players.
Checking 7.5/10 Seguin is pretty mediocre at checking, he's not gonna be the player to make a huge hit or anything, but he can make some contact to bump a player off the puck. On the other side of the puck he doesn't get lit up often, I'd say the only times this happens is when he is up against a monster of a defenseman, and/or I miss time a deke, otherwise he won't get destroyed.
Defense 7.5/10 Seguin also has mediocre defense, his stick checking isn't horrendous, but not someone who I'd put on the PK, meanwhile, his face-offs are very weak for a center, making it crucial to put him at wing in order to utilize him to the best of his ability. I wouldn't say he is a liability, as he plays wing, he stays in position, but don't expect him to make a big defensive play that stands out often.
Overall... I really like Seguin. As overused as this is, he is almost a right-handed Tarasenko. What I find different between the two though is that I feel Seguin is much more well-rounded, he has the scoring game as well as strong passing that often makes you question if his playmaker player type is accurate, or if he should be seen as a sniper, which is a good thing. I find him to be a consistent scoring winger, mainly because he is good in many different scoring situations, he can create himself with his hands and speed, as well as set up in-zone and keep up on the rush to put a cross-crease in the net. For about 100k he is more than worth it, if you're in the need for an all-around offensive winger Seguin is a good choice for you.
Comment which of these guys you'd like to see next, I'd love to be able to make a concrete decision based on your input. I'll probably post it sometime next weekend because finals week, but I'm looking forward to it.
