[F4A] How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard? Lucky...
When paths cross and the threads of fate intertwine, does anyone ever stop to wonder why?
Alone in the world, we drifted from place to place, from person to person. A dry spell of dissatisfaction gradually compounding until the very essence life grew grey. All previous encounters had left us wanting, had left us with an unshakeable desire for something more. Something to truly sate our ravenous appetites. All the waiting, all the pent up despair from a lack of purpose, a lack of passion and a lack of love to share, every last moment began to build up until the pressure was unbearable.
Finally, we collided.
In our collision sparks flew like never before and in that instant a switch was flipped. How could we have known that would it bring about the creation of our own beautiful disaster?
Igniting the fires within each other’s hearts that had for too long been cold and empty was a sensation incomparable to anything else. The euphoria we experienced in each other’s company, as we fell into a lover’s delirium was unparalleled!
I would have given up the world as long as I had you...
Kindling the flames, stoking the fires of our passions, we set the night sky ablaze. Whispering sweet nothings to one another as we lay there watching the inferno of love consume it all, in those moments we were invincible, untouchable and beyond what this world could present to hinder us. With our love we fuelled the insatiable appetite of the flame we had set alight, even as it devoured us - we continued onwards, pouring our hearts out to feed the growing fire. And when the heat reached a fever pitch, the burn only served to heighten the feelings of ecstasy; caught in the spectacle of our own creation, it burned brighter than any star in the skies, just the awe and exhilaration from such a sight could keep any person going for a lifetime.
But.
The fire was not sustainable. Too late did we realise the catastrophe we had created. Too late did we realise the cataclysmic conflagration that once served as a beacon of all that was good, of all that was right in our world, become our undoing. With fervour hot enough to challenge the divines we fought the inevitable end, as the terrible heat that once was the reason for our lives becoming the source of untold agony. A losing battle that we would never win, one with exhausted resources and souls slowly torn asunder, we drifted down into hope’s end.
The fire died taking us with it. The world, once so vibrant with colour and with life once more adorned its ashen apparel. All that was left were the smouldering memories of what had once been. What had once been truly alive and beautiful now lay in ruin as the dust of carnage settled over.
All was said and all was done; the ghostly smoke began to blanket the world, and in those moments we knew that our hearts had once again turned to stone, void of anything worth clinging to. Leaving as mere husks of brilliant beings that once were, the threads of fate that had been bound so tight fell lose once more.
Some days I return to the end, silently watching what the devastation had left behind, sorrow by my side as I stand alone. Some days, with only memories and my thoughts to keep me sane and stop me from crumbling down and breaking apart once more, I listen.
“Do you ever regret it?”
“Never.”
