Is there no faster way to take over planets/regions?

I love big maps, so in my first run I went straight for the maximum size 1000 stars, and filled it to the maximum number of factions (40 or so?). Having played for a while, the whole map is populated now, but I have the biggest and by far strongest faction with 40 or so colonies.

The problem is, even despite having a overwhelming military power to everyone else it takes forever to take over planets. Please tell me if I am doing something wrong and if there is a faster way.

From what I understand, you can not directly take over colonies, you have to first occupy them and then demand it as a gift in the peace treaty after winning some battles showing you are the stronger faction.

The problem is, you can only get planets this way if you listed them as your war goal when you declared war. However you can only list a max value of 100 when declaring war, and each colony is roughly worth 30 points. So you can only take over 3 colonies each time, then you have to sign a peace treaty for 10 years, before you repeat it and take another 3 colonies.

Only being able to take over 3 colonies every 10 year or so even when you have a superior army (atm I got a 40k fleet while my neighbor has pretty much no army at all after my last victory) seems pretty silly...

So, is there something I am missing? Is there a faster way? Or will I have to keep taking 3 planets at the time for hours upon hours of playtime?

Well the other way would be to declare war in order to vassalize the enemy which usually costs 60 warscore, then after a period of time you can spend a buttload of influence over a long time to integrate their whole empire.

Then you get the fun fun times of dealing with their pops of differing ethics and unhappiness ALL AT ONCE!

You would think there would be a simple way of landing your troops and just seizing the planet.

You would think a race 100 times stronger than the other could do more than just occupying 3 colonies at the time yes.

The war score used to make war goals should be relative to your strength, or rather the difference in strength between the two factions.

The fact that the war between a 10 power vs a 5 power faction and the war between a 1000 power vs a 5 power faction takes equally long time for victory is flawed in my mind.

Even the war score increase could be scaled better, sure make it 30 for one planet. But make it progressively less for each planet the more you add on.

I thought it was hard enough just trying to sift though the list of planet names to find the 3 ones I want take next...

Aye, finding the 3 closest to your border to slowly move outwards.

There is a search bar though, should probably start using that one.

Though the optimal UI (in case any Paradox read this) would allow you to just click on the map to mark them.
