Honestly, the teachers at my school need to chill out
Alright, so I’m graduating from high school in like two weeks. I’m really excited, but I couldn’t give a shit what’s going on in school anymore, I just want to get out of here. I think the feeling of caring, or lack thereof, is pretty mutual across the board in my grade. So obviously some kids are pretty relaxed and falling asleep in basically every class. I don’t, cause I just don’t feel comfortable sleeping in front of others, but plenty of others are.
Anyways, my calculus class is really toned down now. It’s a pretty simple class and everyone is just gonna wing it on the final. We’ve had a sub for the past couple of weeks, because our teacher was out after giving birth. She’s back now, but again, everything’s pretty much up to the students at this point.
So this morning it’s her first day back after, I’d say, 2 and a half months of maternity leave. She’s talking to all of us, giving us some last minute pointers for the test, and explaining how she can help any of us if we need it. She then starts showing an example she heard we had trouble with while she was gone. I’m fine in this class, and don’t really need any extra help, so I’m not paying attention and phase out.
I’m thinking about working over the summer when I hear the teacher say my name. I look up and she’s looking at me, but she’s like really annoyed. I look around to see if people are looking at me, but, and I swear on my soul this is true; every single person in the class is passed out on their desk. And this isn’t just some little 7 person class of lazy students, this is 31, not counting me, good students just straight up out of it lying with their heads down.
I get really confused and look at the teacher. it’s dead silent, not even breathing from people sleeping. She looks a little more annoyed at me now, so I say I didn’t hear the question. All of a sudden she just says my name again, angrily. Just my name. I think, maybe it’s something obvious from the problem on the board, so i look to see.
The board just has a bunch of tally marks on it. Just sloppy lines drawn in order across the thing. Two rows to be specific. In between the rows is an outline of a little chubby figure, but with big black eyes. On the figures stomach, written in marker, it says “pueri in tenebris”. I don’t know any french, so I just think it’s some quote. At this point I’m kind of surprised that she hasn’t noticed that every student in the class is asleep. I look at her and say that I don’t understand the question, but of course she just growls my name again. Except, this time she literally growls it. Her voice was a little lower than I remember.
At this point I’m kind of creeped out, as anyone would be. I look at her again and now she’s just staring wildly at me. I look out the window into the school hallways, but the lights are turned out. Great! The teacher is having a breakdown, the class doesn’t care, and the school can’t keep the lights on.
My name again, louder. And a little lower again. What?
My name again
WHAT? What do you want me to say, I didn’t hear the question.
My name, again. Louder and lower.
How is she doing that to her voice, it’s so surreal. I look around assuming people are awake and watching this scene unfold. Nope. Not a peep. Silent as stones. Still as stones at that.
Suddenly I feel this chill, and I look up and she’s right in front of me. She moved pretty fast for a woman who recently gave birth, cause I don’t think I even saw her. This time she actually fucking screams my name, and her voice actually, like as in literally it actually happened, triples. Straight out of movie. Not even close to lying. I hear three separate voices say my name, a man’s, a woman’s, and if a baby could speak, probably a baby’s. I think this is a prank now, and i look around for a speaker that she did this with. Unfortunately the class didn’t decide to let up yet, and they keep sitting there, silent and asleep.
I’m not really comfortable with things like pranks, so when she starts screaming my name more, I don’t really look at her. Eventually, though, I get mad and look right at her, and my heart drops. Her eyes are black.
And twice their normal size.
When I look into her eyes, with her screams echoing around me, I feel like the room starts to freeze. It got so cold. I just stop and look at her. She’s screaming so loudly now, the voices all in unison. It’s really picking up now. She’s right over top of me, looking down, screaming. I’m scared now. Her pace is picking up, and louder all the time. Lower. Louder. Colder. Faster. Lower. Louder. Colder. Faster. Lower. Faster. Colder. Faster. LOUDER. FASTER. COLDER. FASTER, FASTER, FASTER, FASTER.
Silence.
I feeling a chilling, crushing cold, touch something inside me i can’t describe. I feel light, and hear a faint wind blow by. The room has separated itself from me and the teacher. I look at her eyes. Scared. That chubby figure emblazons itself in the background, eyes like the teacher’s.
What is this.
I hear my name whispered
Who are you, i ask
We are what they were, brought through the womb of one bearer, to spread what is just to those who are able. We are in them, throughout. We are within some, to then be all. The seed was planted.
You are the first yield
I feel a tight grasp on my heart. It squeezes me, and then it spreads across my body. I feel cold and at peace for a moment, and then I pass out on my desk.
The bell rings. I wake and look around. Everyone is up and walking out. I look at the teacher. She’s sitting at her desk typing on the computer. The board has the same markings, but there’s an extra tally mark on the bottom row. I glance at a student. They blink and for a second I see black eyes, but then their gone.
