Cherry Vodka
Was it a fair exchange
my company for my disdain
I didn’t have to think twice
when I didn’t have anything to do
on a dripping July Friday
/
Your laugh like a buzzer
after too much cherry vodka
that we bought from a bodega
for forty dollars under the counter
/
It wreaked like rubbing alcohol
as I brought it closer to my lips
I wanted to yack and they could tell
so I closed my eyes tight and pulled
/
I passed it right and wiped my mouth
locking my jaw around my sleeve
“I like whiskey better”
/
We left the bottle under a bench in the park
You stumbled and your friends laughed
I kept walking and took out my phone
12:02 and 34 percent battery
/
Someone suggested we go downtown
Their mom was a psychiatrist
She left pills around
She didn’t care if we drank or smoked
