I am the ground beneath your feet

I am the ground beneath your feet.

Amaranths and heathers I will bloom.

The fragrance of them, Oh so sweet!

But to remember me in that scent.

That shall be my one lament.

I am the ground upon which you stand.

Trees erected to offer you shade.

Roots entrenched in the frozen land.

But alas, when my shadow fades,

Promise me you won’t be afraid.

I am the wind that flurries and flows.

To whisper to you in the dead of night,

And take you where no one goes.

To keep aloft your hopeful kite,

And guide you in the morning light.

I am the waves that crash the shores.

Echoes of canons: destruction in the distance!

Fighting and fleeing in unknown wars.

But to achieve such grace and beauty in an instance!

But to achieve such grace and beauty in existence!

I am the house of decay and rot

But from solemn death, life begot.
