The Innocent Bystander
We live in a society that punishes, The one who commits the crime, They say hes the one responsible, And he must pay with his time.
They forget however, Like all societies tend to do, That an effect without cause, Happening is all but true.
As the man was going to shoot, His friend was aware, Of the fight that had been ensuing, But he just did not care.
When the girl was molested, The policeman was there, But it was the politician's son, And he just did not dare.
When his friends fought, He chose not to side, He thought that being neutral, Was easy and hence right.
The rule is oppressive to some, The people knew about that, But as long as it didnt effect them, It was alright, not that bad.
And so every crime on god's earth, Has had an 'innocent' witness, Who said he was ignorant, In times of moral crises.
The crime could have been stopped, And the victim be saved, Had the innocent bystander, Decided to be immensely brave.
And yet he chose otherwise, For he lacked the courage, To fight the might for right, He was trapped in his own cage.
It is he who deserves for sure, The darkest place in hell, For he decided to be neutral, In times of moral peril.
