I Think There's Nothing Stranger Than A Stranger
The sounds of rattling suitcases
and music seeping from earphones,
not loud enough to make out the song but loud enough to fill the air with an audible fog.
I'm stood behind a two way mirror, the platform my accused.
My pupils fixate on a gentle man,
sallow hair and grey skin.
A single marking above his left cheek caused by a collision with a frying pan coupled with eye bags so heavy they could rip through steel.
Packed with 68 years of memories from the birth of his second child to the passing of his first wife to watching the destruction of the Berlin Wall.
Not a single word,
exchanged,
yet a biography constructed.
"Isn't it strange" they remark,
all these one off encounters,
nameless faces floating into your life then drifting off again like a children's balloon.
I took inspiration for this poem from my own experiences but another great poem from this sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/OCPoetry/comments/2nok1f/everyone_wants_a_revolution_but_no_one_wants_to/
