Letters

Feedback Received!

Sometimes the letters are stuck
together like with glue locked in
little cells packed close so
I can squeeze each into
the line.

Sometimes they sprawl across
the page in great strides like
kings of poetry and music,
the times when I have few
words needed to fill
the line.

Yet, unbeknownst,
they are no more free
than their sardine
counterparts, as both have
been wrought unwittingly
into a wriggling birth,
forced to be my slaves
that spill their anguish onto
the line.

I'm worried "anguish" is a little too melodramatic, and "forced to be my slaves' is a little redundant.
