Danny's a big, big boy. I think he has a decent enough point that he and Golovkin would be a very competitive fight. I think Golovkin at this point would beat him, however. Golovkin would come in with a lot of respect - like he did against Lemeiux - but his deceptive skills I think would give him a good chance against Jacobs.

Again though, Danny's not a small fighter. He's a pretty big middleweight. I remember I was talking to him a while back because he was training where I train...and he was huge. I was like "O_o shit. This cat is not small."

Canelo needs to keep his red head ass at 154. The weight and height disparity Jacobs has would spank Alvarez. No disrespect to him either. I like Canelo. He's one of my favorite fighters.

Do you mind sharing some of your uh, physical characteristics? Basically weight class you were competing at (did you cut a lot of water weight) and height?

Jacobs is listed as being 6'1 (same as B-hop) and yeah, that is pretty damn big as middleweights come, especially as shredded and muscular as Jacobs is. At least that means he'd have some decent chance against Golovkin. Obviously, with the legit hype-train that Golovkin is conducting, there isn't anyone at 160 who actually has a chance (remember when Quillin was seen as a possible equal?) but with Danny's punching power, well, that is always an X-factor, especially given that Golovkin has never had to fight someone that big who is KNOWN for his power. Stevens was a little 5'8 puncher.

Canelo needs to keep his red head ass at 154. The weight and height disparity Jacobs has would spank Alvarez.

I don't think weight or height come into this. Canelo could go toe-to-toe with anyone within his range. The problem is that Canelo, "slick" as he has become, still isn't slick enough to avoid most punches and Jacobs will probably punch harder than any opponent Canelo has fought. And it will not take many punches from someone like Jacobs to make his face red as a tomato.

You're right. Canelo needs to stay at 154 cough 155 until he is ready for 1 tune-up at 160 (Lemieux?) and then head straight into the money fight with Golovkin. Even Lemieux would be a huge risk, but at least that is an in-house fight and they could pay Lemieux to go easy. But someone like Jacobs? No way in hell would it be a good idea.

At around 19 or so, I’d cut to 141 from around 158 or so. Then I went from walking around at 158/160 to cutting to 146. Then I cut to around 154. Fought at 155 and 158 as a pro.

I’m 5’10” and fought at welterweight, light middleweight, and middleweight. Right now I’m weighing about 170/175 or so - the walking around weight of a lot of MWs.

Danny seems to be around 6’2”, 6’1”. I don’t know what his boxrec height is, but he definitely seems pretty big. He’s also not a skinny person. He has a pretty big upper body as well. I imagine his calves are likely kind of small being as big and tall as he is at MW, but I didn’t bother to study them.

Jacobs is listed as being 6'1 (same as B-hop)

Ah. I see. So yeah. He is taller than me. Not like Kingsley “Sharp Knuckle” Ikeke taller than me (he's 6'4" - used to spar him in training camp a lot and he towered over me and pretty much everyone), but still pretty tall for a middleweight.

and yeah, that is pretty damn big as middleweights come, especially as shredded and muscular as Jacobs is.

Exactly.

Canelo could go toe-to-toe with anyone within his range.

I agree that he does have very good range in terms of his abilities, but Jacobs is not only very well skilled, but would be the biggest opponent Canelo would fight by far since Canelo’s used to fighting the Miguel Cotto’s and Josesito Lopez’s of the world.

The problem is that Canelo, "slick" as he has become, still isn't slick enough to avoid most punches and Jacobs will probably punch harder than any opponent Canelo has fought.

Yes, sir. We’re definitely saying similar things.

And it will not take many punches from someone like Jacobs to make his face red as a tomato.

Agreed. Danny’s sharp too. He might just as likely cut and slice Canelo up as much as he would simply bludgeon him with power.

until he is ready for 1 tune-up at 160 (Lemieux?)

Oh man…now that fight I would LOVE to see. Hell I think Lemieux has a really good shot at Canelo because A) he’s a natural middleweight, and B) Lemieux is just a straight forward aggressive buzzsaw like no one Canelo’s ever seen. Canelo could possibly time him well, but - again - he might also very much not be used to the size and the intense aggressiveness.

And no. Let’s not talk about what Canelo did to James Kirkland because we all know that the no-Anne Wolf Kirkland that Canelo faced was by no means the real Anne Wolf-trained Kirkland.

And if Canelo were to actually beat Lemieux, then watch out. That would be a real big win for him. I would say perhaps the biggest of his career up to this point.

and then head straight into the money fight with Golovkin.

Yep. If Canelo were to actually beat Lemieux - absolutely no guarantee, and that’s why I’d like that fight so much - the boxing world would be absolutely buzzing for the Golovkin fight at that point.

they could pay Lemieux to go easy.

Na, man. I don’t think there would be any possibility of any untowardness in the fight fixing category on that high level a fight. I think that, if offered the fight, Lemieux would train just as hard as he did for the Golovkin fight and would go in there and give it as good of a shot as he possibly could. Fight fixing tends to happen at the lower rungs of the ladder as far as I know - not at this championship level. Lemieux would hopefully be given at least a two month training camp, and would come in ready to go.

But someone like Jacobs? No way in hell would it be a good idea.

Correct. Golden Boy ain’t taking that shit. They’ll scuttle around Jacobs all day.

I was watching some show about his 2nd championship fight. It was about leading up to the fight. Seemed like he had to cut a ton of weight to make 160. Not only using hoodies, but some greasy stuff to put on his skin. I wouldn't be surprised if he was cutting from 175+. I'm fairly certain it affects how mobile he is in the ring. You never see guys like Margarito, Clottey, or Rios fight on their toes, and they are known to come in at well over 160 for a 147 fight.

Yep. Cutting weight is something that can really drain you fight night. Kind of a dangerous thing, but well...everyone does it, and it is kind of just the way things go in the sport. Granted many are moving up in weight (Manny, Floyd, Miguel etc) so the "drain after a big cut" thing isn't so much an issue then, but when you do cut a lot, it does have an effect come fight night.

I remember a short special I saw on Terrence Crawford - I believe before he fought Raymundo Beltran - and they showed the weight cut he had to go through...and the shit was insane. He was SO drained come weigh in. He looked shredded as fuck, but it wasn't healthy for him. He still won the fight, but yeah. Big weight cut.
