Conflicting information from local gun dealer

Looking to purchase a Mini-14 (Yes i know it's banned by name), however the local gun dealer said this isn't the case as ruger has changed the name of the rifle to "Mini-14 Ranch Rifle". Does this make it viable for ownership here?

On that same accord, is it just the older ruger mini-14's that are considered banned by name?

Thanks for your insight.

I am a gun dealer in Ocean County. The other posters nailed it- Certain models are banned by name and the letter suffix makes all the difference.

Thanks, So "F" because of the stock excludes it. So I can even consider buying used, so long as it isn't a F or RF model.

That is correct.

I will add, the F model is banned because it is on the banned list. Don't try to apply logic to NJ gun laws or you will get into bad space. Just follow the lists and laws, illogical as they can be, to the letter at face value.

IIRC: The NJ list bans the Mini 14 F version by name, which have the folding stock. I think the non-folders with 15 or fewer rounds are good-to-go in NJ.

Check out njgunforums.com, bigger community, you might find some current owners who can give you more certainty about it.

According to title 2C it is only the F versions that are banned these were the models that had folding/collapsible stocks. I just bought a Mini-14 at a NJ gun shop about 4 months ago, so you're good to go..

Only the folding stock Mini-14 is banned by name. New production ones are fine
