Asus MG279Q not as smooth as old monitor
First of all the Asus MG279Q is a pretty impressive monitor. The quality is great and thankfully I have fairly minor backlight bleed. Other than that, the picture quality is fantastic. Not a fan of the light anti glare coating as I can often see my reflection so personally would have preferred a slightly thicker coating but not a major problem.
Previously I had a BenQ XL2411Z 1080p 144Hz monitor and being a massive fan of 144Hz I decided to pick up this Asus however, despite playing games at the same FPS it does not feel quite as smooth. I've adjusted game settings to have similar FPS on both monitors and tried games like CS:GO which can easily reach over 144FPS at 1440p but the games just don't feel as smooth, even at 144FPS compared to my old monitor. It's difficult to explain, but the monitor just feels more 'choppy' if that makes sense, especially when games hover between 50-60FPS (Freesync disabled). Even at these frames on my old BenQ, the game still felt rather smooth but it does not on the Asus.
With Freesync enabled it is similar to the old monitor and maybe even slightly better (at the 35-90 range), though not significantly.
I've compared them side by side and independently but still feel the difference in smoothness. I don't know if I'm going crazy. I know the Asus is an IPS, but would that cause 'choppy' gameplay at equal FPS? Am I just looking for a problem that is not there? It's a lovely monitor otherwise, but I just can't seem to shake the feeling in games.
Thanks in advance and I welcome all thoughts and suggestions.

Yes it's the issue with IPS, they are slower, the image "smears" when you move quickly like you do in multi FPS games. I had a PG278Q then got the IPS PG279Q and when I noticed the issue, I sold the PG279Q because I could not stand it. When moving quickly you can't tell what's happening on the screen. It has nothing to do with refresh rate or input lag. Not much you can do about it I'm afraid.
I certainly notice that there is less clarity in games with lots of motion. I absolutely love the panel on this Asus but am disappointed with how it performs in such games. I knew it would not be as good as my older TN but was hoping it was only slightly worse in such scenarios.
I'm hoping I can get used to it as in normal desktop use it's great.
Yea. I only use TN for online games. I play a lot of csgo and overwatch.
Fuck that, Think I'll stick with my PG278Q even longer after reading that.
I dont notice much of a smear. Given a little time your eyes can get used to anything. When I went from a 50ms panel to a 16ms panel, I could have sworn my old 50ms panel looked better and was faster.
The PG279 is IPS and therefore, slower though. No secret there. But, it's worth the significant advantages of IPS in everything else vs TN personally.
