YU-NO: The Girl Who Chants LOVE at the Edge of The World
So about a week back, I was craving something immersive to sink my teeth into, and I decided to look into the classic PC-98 game, YU-NO.
As it turned out, this game got a very impressive fan-patch a little while back, combining features and improvements from several versions of the game on PC-98 and Sega Saturn, along with bonus-disc content and full voice acting. I also found a lossless music.arc patch which breathed new life into the OST, done by the legendary Ryu Umemoto!
Initially, the game presents itself very typically, but instantly subverts your expectations once the prologue ends, throwing you into a 3-way route choice almost immediately, with timelines fragmenting and zigzagging further as you go. The main character gains a stone slab with gems embedded in it. You start with 2 and collect the other 6 as you explore each route. These gems allow you to use save-states, allowing you to explore most of your options in each timeline and carry necessary items to other times and places.
What immediately made YU-NO stand apart for me, besides the godly soundtrack, seriously, was the very attractive artstyle. Nothing ventures into "Am I kawaii, uguu~" territory, as some of the older VNs tend to... I'd say 90s VN aesthetic doesn't come any better than this. This article goes into greater depth.
I was hoping to get some discussion going on this board (was quite surprised there are no Yu-No flairs?!) as a FULL REMAKE is apparently coming to PS4 and Vita! Hopefully it will do the game better justice than its poor anime and manga adaptations...
Has anyone else enjoyed YU-NO and/or gotten 100% as well? Favorite moments? Best route? Stuff that probably won't make it into the reboot?

I stayed up till 4AM last night finishing up Part 2 and started the epilogue. So far it's been an amazing 46 hour journey and I'm pretty excited to see what's left to come. My favorite part so far would have to be the scene with Mio in the cave and the soundtrack that went with it. Everything about that route was perfect and the atmosphere was one of the best I've seen in a visual novel so far.
The "ending" is an entire route of its own, which surprised me! Even though on the walkthrough map it's just one space, it's actually about the same length as a main route
I just finished it. Now I'm really hoping the remake gets localized cause I already missed the game 5 hours before it ended. It's definitely in my top 2 now. I just need to find some friends who want to play it.
If you get 100% you get a cute scene by visiting the school instead of going home at the beginning.
Yep. I got that and it really helped get closure. [Here's how I feel about the whole thing though] (https://i.imgur.com/m4dsx2u.gifv)
