Respect "Deku" Izuku Midoriya (My Hero Academia)

Warning: For anime only watchers, this thread does contain spoilers. Also while I include anime versions of some scenes, the manga is probably considered the primary canon. Also feats are in chronoligical order in each section.

Background: Izuku Midoriya is the main protagonist of the manga series My Hero Academia. He is a boy born into a world where 80% of the population has superpowers, known as quirks. Izuku dreamed of one day becomming a superhero, just like his idol All Might. There was just one problem. Izuku was quirkless, meaning he had no special abilities. Despite this he tried to work to become a hero despite the fact that everyone, even All Might, told him that it wasn't possible. However that all changed when he threw himself into danger in order to rescue his childhood friend/current bully Katsuki Bakugou from an attacking villain. Seeing Izuku's heroic spirit, All Might decided that he was worthy to inherit his power, known as One for All. Now he attends the school of U.A. Accademy where he is training to become a superhero, while trying to master the use of One for All and not destroy himself in the process.

Personality: At the start of the story he is a very timid, but kindhearted boy due to being bullied and ignored due to his quirkless status. However after attending U.A., making friends, and facing off against villains he began to grow much more confident. He also very heroic, though this tends to him being very reckless in regards to his body, especially if someone he knows is in danger, and he has a tendency to stick his nose into other people's problems. In fact his heroic spirit is so strong that the hero killer Stain (who purged anyone he thought was undesrving of the title of hero) saw worth in keeping him alive. He is also very intelligent, and is a massive otaku when it comes to superhero knowledge. He will try to analyze any quirks he comes across, which often leads to him mumbling.

One for All

Origins of One for All

One the surface One for All simply seems to be a quirk that greatly enhances its users physical capabilities. And while this is true, there is more to it than that. The most important part of All For One is that it can be passed from person to person, with Izuku as the ninth in wielder of it.

• In order for One for All to passed down, the recipient must consume some of the DNA of its current holder. The current holder can choose whether or not to pass on the quirk, so it can not be forcibly stolen (though it can be forcibly given away. However the person receiving the quirk must be careful, because if they are not strong enough they will be torn apart by the quirk. Also, if One for All is given to a person that already posses a quirk, that quirk will be added to One for All and passes along as well.

• While Izuku's body is just strong enough to hold One for All, it can't do much more than that. Any use of full strength will break the limb that used that power. And while Izuku can use that power on already broken limbs, this can come at the cost of permanently disfiguring his body. In fact, after the training camp invasion (where he really overused One for All) he suffered ligament damage, and now two or three more full power uses of One for All could permantly cripple his body.

• Originally he had no control over how much of his power he used, and was forced to chose between either not using it or using 100%. However the first time he tried to use his strength on a person, he managed to land a punch without breaking his arm. All Might later explanined that he had used 5% of One for All's power, which is the maximum amount his body can take. By focusing on the feeling of that one time, he is able to channel 5% power into his limbs, and use some of his strength without crippling himself. However he still needs to be careful to not go over that limit.

• One last thing to mention is that it is possible that One for All has a bit of a mind of its own, or at least the will of the previous users can still influence it. For example, it once activated on its own to break him of mind control. However this has not yet been fully explained.

TL:DR: One for All gives him super strength and speed, but his body can't handle it. Using full power breaks his bones, and too much of that can cripple him. He can now summon 5% power to fight without crippling himself.

Full Cowl

As previously mentioned 5% strength is the most Izuku can get out of One for All without crippling himself. And after training with Gran Torino he figured out how to effectively use this in combat, known as full cowl. By spreading 5% power evenly over his entire body, he can fight much more effectively and not just treat One for All like a last minute trump card.

In addition, due to the damage taken to his arms he is working on developing Full Cowl shoot style, which priorizes the use of his legs. However this is a recent development (and is something he is still working on) so it doesn't have a lot of feats.

Costume

• Original Costume: Nothing really special about this one, it's literally a jumpsuit given to him by his mother that doesn't have much in the way of additional functions.

• Beta Costume: The second costume is basically the first costume, with some slight modifications made by the support company (because it looks so much cooler that way).

• Gamma Costume: Modification of the Beta Costume done by Hatsume Mei, this costume is made with the intention of supporting Full Cowl Shoot Style. It features arm supports to protect his arms from breaking, as well iron souls to increase the strength of his kicks.

Strength

---

No Quirk

• Manages to hold onto All Might while he leaps high across the city

• Anime version

• Caries All Might on his back with great strain, and All Might weighs 255 kg

• Anime version

• Has a grip strength of 56 kgw

• Throws a softball 46 meters

• Anime version

• Catches a swing from Bakugou and then slams him into the ground

• Anime version

• Breaks a robot in two with a swing of a metal sheet by using the robot's momentum against it

• Catches and pulls up Kouta with his teeth

5% strength

• Punches Noumu hard enough to produce a shockwave (though it doesn't actually do anything due to Noumu's shock absorption)

• Anime version (far more powerful, where the shockwave of the punch is shown to send people flying, bend street lamps, and shatter glass).

• Swing of his arm produces enough wind pressure to knock back Todoroki's flaming arm

• Sends Todoroki flying back with a punch, despite every one of his fingers being broken. Another punch in the same fight seems to produce a wind blast

• Sends a sofa flying up with a punch (creating wind blasts in the process) fast enough to catch Gran Torino off guard and Gran Torino is shown to be extremely fast

• Sends a guardrail flying up out of the ground while getting up from a prone position, after All Might stabs said guardrail into the ground in order to pin him

• Actually affects All Might with a punch to the face. Though admittedly during this time All Might was essentially letting Bakugou and Midoriya win, so it's possible he was just playing being hurt.

• Just running up a cliff is enough to leave imprints of his shoes in solid rock

• Shatters Spinner's weapon with a kick. For reference here's a closer look at said weapon

• With his first use of the gamma costume, shatters a falling chunk of cement with a kick.

Full Strength (using just his fingers)

• By applying his power to the tip of his finger for a split second mid throw, hurls a softball 705.3 meters away.

• Anime Version

• Shockwave of a two finger flick causes the water below him to split and then converge with enough force to send a group of villains flying.

• Anime version (far more powerful, with the force of the converging water being strong enough to send a boat flying).

• Flicks Todoroki's ice attacks right back at him

Full Strength (using his whole arm)

• Destroys and topples a multi-story tall robot with a single punch.

• Anime version

• Shockwave of his punch blasts through multiple floors of a building and knocks loose multiple massive support beams

• Anime version

• Creates an absolutely massive blast of wind with a swing of his arm, and frees himself from ice

• The wind pressure of his punch, combined with Todoroki's flames igniting the cold air around them, creates an extremely powerful explosion that obliterates cement and sends him flying back. This is also done with every finger on his hand broken.

• With two broken arms, by summoning a massive amount of strength, he overpowers Muscular and then punches him into the side of a cliff hard enough to KO him, which shatters a good portion of the cliff face in the process (the damage from the final struggle is on the left.

  • Two things to note about Muscular. One, he's really strong and two, [he had previously shrugged off a 100% punch from Midoriya, which Midoriya even described as All Migtht's power

• Also according to WoG it wasn''t actually him summoning 1000000% strength, it was just a battle cry while he summoned abnormal strength during a crisis.

Speed/Agility

---

No Quirk

• Runs 50 meters in 7.01 seconds while being thrown off balance by Bakugou's explosion. That's about 7.13 m/s or 16 mph.

• Anime version (Bakugou's blast doesn't actually effect him in the anime)

• Dodges a surprise attack from Bakugou, though he is grazed.

• Anime version

• Dodges a swipe from a robot

• Crawls along a rope with a sheet of metal strapped to his back

• Catches a frostbitten Todoroki off guard

5% strength

• During his first use of Full Cowl he leaps up to the ceiling and then leaps down fast enough to graze Grand Torino who is shown to be casually FTE.

• Wall jumps and blitzes Stain before he can kill Iida

• Runs through Stain's legs, then leaps over a slash from Stain and disappears from his view before coming down with a punch. Worth noting that swing his sword at extremely high speed.

• Wall jumps up three stories and grabs Stain before he or any of the ice he had cut apart has a chance to fall

• Rapidly leaps through a construction site

• Blitzes Bakugou before All Might can grab him. Though admittedly All Might is seriously holding back in this fight.

• Claims clearing this distance will take just over one leap with Full Cowl

• Runs up the side of a cliff and saves Kouta from Muscular, who is shown to be very vast

• Appears at seemingly FTE speeds and blitzes Spinner mid-swing

• Alongside Iida uses a ramp to launch themselves and Kirishima a long distance, as well as around 20 meters in the air

• Intercepts a chunk of cement mid fall

Full Strength

• Leaps several stories in an instant

• Anime version

• Leaps forwards at FTE speeds, surprising Tomura with his speed. For reference Tomura is shown to be extremely fast. In fact later Tomura even comments that Izuku's speed was comparable to All Might's

• Anime version

Durability

---

It is not clear if One for All increases his durability. In fact taking hits has been shown to knock him out of full cowl so I won't be splitting this section up.

• Takes multiple hits, including an explosion, from Bakugou. Worth noting that Bakugou's explosions can easily crack a wall.

• Anime version

• Blocks an explosion from Bakugou with his arm (though in addition to all of the other damage he took in the fight, this causes him to pass out

• Anime version parts 1 and 2

• Takes a point blank explosion powerful enough to obliterate cement, and sent slamming back into the opposite walll. And while this does knock him out, he was already heavily injured by this point due to his own quirk (more on that bellow)

• Takes multiple hits from Gran Torino who even while holding back is shown to be very strong

• Sent flying by one of Bakugou's explosions, and then kicked hard into the ground by All Might (who admittedly is seriously holding back). For reference Bakugou's explosions can throw a softball 705.2 m and even while holding back All Might can shatter Bakugou's gauntlet's with a light tap.

• Knocked off a cliff by a wave of earth and leaps right back into battle

• Takes a beating from Muscualar, who punches him into a cliff face hard enough to crack solid rock. His arm is broken in the process though

• Overpowered by Muscular and pushed into the ground, leaving a crater in the rock beneath him. And he still keeps fighting

• Sent flying over a forest (while weightless) and then drops down on a villain, and almost immediately after takes a blast of fire from Dabi. Keep in mind this after he is already severely injured.

Endurance

---

• Over a period of eight months, manages to go through an extremely strenuous workout routine while simultaneously cleaning a beach of all of its garbage.

• On his first day at U.A. Academy manages to go through multiple parts of a physical fitness test with a broken finger, though it does hurt his performance

• Beats Shinsou in a fight with two broken fingers

• During his fight against Todoroki he breaks every finger on his right hand, breaks his arm, uses his power with his already broken fingers, punches Todoroki with his already broken fingers, uses his power with his broken fingers yet again, punches Todoroki with his broken fingers again, and is then hit at close range by Todoroki's flames and yet he's still able to fight. It takes this explosion to take him out of the fight.

• Does an air chair strength exercise for an entire class period.

• During the end of term test he is hit in the head by Bakugou's gauntlet, crashes into Bakugou in midair, gets pinned to the ground by a guardrail, endures the blow back of one of Bakugou's massive explosions, and then thrown by Bakugou's explosion and slammed into the ground by All Might (who is holding back in this fight), and he still manages to escape and pass the test.

• During the Training Camp invasion he's grazed by Muscular, takes a beating from Muscular that breaks his arm, then lodges his broken arm in Muscular's muscle fiber and breaks his other arm with a 100% punch, and then clashes with muscular with his broken arm, eventually hitting him with a 100% punch that tears up the skin on his right arm. And despite all of these injuries he still manages to carry Kouta back to Aizawa and continue fighting (though past a certain point he has to be carried by Shouji) at one point even claiming he feels no pain, and is then sent flying over a forest (while weightless) before dropping down on top of a villain, and soon after takes a blast of fire. Though at this point he can barely move and afterwards he requires a lot of medical attention.

Intelligence

---

• In less than a minute figures out a way to apply his power without completely crippling himself

• Due to studying Bakugou's fighting style, he's able to read his movements and hold his own against him despite not using his powers at all.

• While trapped on a boat surrounded by villains, he analyzes the situation and comes up with a way for him and his friends to escape.

• Analyzes and predicts the movements of a robot in order to beat it without using his quirk

• By using his environment to his advantage he manages to win an obstacle course race without once using his quirk while going up against several super-powered opponents.

• Figures out the flaw in Todoroki's fighting style and exploits it.

• He's created battle strategies for people with different quirks

• In just about a day of training with Gran Torino he figures out the flaw in how he's using One for All and how to more effectively use the power without hurting himself.

• Accurately determines the Hero Killer's location

• Figures out Stain's power

• When dealing with an extremely speedy and powerful villain, he manages to lodge his broken arm in the villain's muscle fiber so he can't dodge his next attack.

• When forced to choose between saving Tokoyami and saving Bakugou comes up with a plan to save both of them

• Comes up with a plan to successfully rescue Bakugou from the Villain Alliance

• Gets most of class 1-A to group together during the provisional license test, correctly assuming that all of the other participants will gang up on them.
