What is the most spot on depressing/cutting/or otherwise hurtful but true thing someone has called out about you (personality or physical) to your face?

Probably not entirely what you mean, but perhaps this will interest you.
I went through a divorce a bit ago (legally simple - no kids, but emotionally rough as I wasn't expecting it and, in retrospect, was entirely dependent on her for my sense of worth and identity). Due to largely irrational fears of being harshly judged coupled with whatever denial I could reasonably muster, very few people knew about the divorce, though I imagine some suspected.
The evening of the day I signed the court papers finalizing the split, I went out with some friends to take my mind off of things, though only one of the people going knew I had had a horrible day.
One of their girlfriends, who I had not met before, had a hilarious but biting sense of dark humor. Over random small talk, the usual topic of what we did/studied came up, and I mentioned that I'm in grad school for mathematics. She immediately shot back with "Oh, well no wonder you're alone."
Honestly it was so shocking that, after a long pause, it ended up about as hilarious as it was depressing, especially seeing the friend who knew go all wide-eyed, wondering if I was about to have a breakdown. It was also glorious, glorious payback to explain to her why that was hilarious. I now fully understand the phrase, "Her face fell."
Totally fits. Sorry for the circumstances but here's to laughing like a lunatic through a shit time.
What I considered to be blunt and truthful was just emotional abuse. I'm glad they said it. I went through some tough shit growing up and my idea of how to interact socially was fucked. They made me realize that I was starting to act like my father, and I changed real fucking fast. I was 17 or 18 and they got to me soon enough to change my life before I ruined it.
"Everything you touch turns to shit."
-Jenna, my ex from Texas. A generally hurtful person.
I still hear this in my head nearly two decades later
If I told you jenna probably has loose lips by now and her opinion doesn't matter would it make you feel better?
That i'm a pushover and incapable of standing up for myself.
Are you my ex?
