You can easily buy chefknives from a thrift store. It's all about knowing how to sharpen the knives. Check out Chefsteps on YouTube. They have a video showing what to look for and how to properly sharpen a knife. You don't need to buy a new (expensive) one.

Genius, I never even thought about buying them second hand!
Like with all thrifting, you can pick up some real gems second hand. Though that being said, once I got my good 8" chef's knife, I got rid of nearly every other kitchen knife and now only have that, a cleaver, and a serated utility knife. One good knife can replace 5-6 shitty ones.
That's what i do, I bought a bunch and saved the two i liked the best. Gave rest to friends
Hey, when it comes to knives, have a look at Victorinox. They're usually fairly cheap and everyone I know keeps telling me how nice they are...
And regarding the clothes: I wear all the muted colours you mentioned but I throw in different shades of red. People (my mom) tell me it suits me and it keeps the wardrobe from becoming too boring. So yeah, figure out what colour suits you best and wear a t-shirt or sweater in that colour once in a while.
Victorinox seem great and reasonably priced but I'm all about that full tang, I'm in love with wusthof and can't get them out of my mind.
As for clothes, yeah sometimes I wear a few loud colors. I have a red dress and a few bright blue tops and some plaid but generally I'm muted and I'm ok with that!

I can totally relate to your last point. I was addicted to online shopping between the age of 17-22.
I love color and art, but I like changing things up often. Can't seem to balance the two with keeping a household that is easy to move.
I have moved over 20 times in aboit 10 years. What I have found is buying inexpensive pillow covers, maybe a throw blanket or two, a rug, and a candle work for me. I'm an artist, so I can swap out artwork in a frame for next to nothing, but you could do the same with purchased prints, posters, or photos. I've found great pillow covers for around $5 on Amazon. I sometimes use cheap blanket scarves as throw blankets (less than $10). A small inexpensive rug can completely change the look of a kitchen, entry, or small room. I found a great indoor/outdoor one for $14 recently. If I get tired of it, I can use it outside, plus it's easy to clean. I personally also like candles. They add color and as soon as I tire of the color, it's burned down. I buy the pillars without a container and put them in a glass or use a plate or bowl. When I move I can either recycle the items back to the thrift store, or fold everything and take it with me. It takes up no more space than a couple sweaters.
Oh same! I find it hard to commit to a certain decor because my tastes change a lot and I don't want to accumulate tons of stuff since I live in an apartment right now.
I only wear neutrals as well. Add in a colored scarf or a beaded necklace if you want to add a pop of color.
My 1 knife is from ikea. It was a gift from my mil 10 years ago. Buy a knife sharpener. My knife still works great as long as I sharpen it now and then. My Dad visited a couple of months ago and purchased a cheap knife from Walmart. It's horrible, so maybe the brand matters. All I can say is my ikea knife is great.
You may need to delve into the emotional side of this. I found that part of minimalism to be much more challenging, but really worth tackling.
Best of luck to you! :)
Well idk but for me I only use a utility knife in the kitchen for all my cutting. I'm really good at using JUST that knife.
I plan on purchasing a really expensive utility knife instead of a whole knife set I won't use.
