I want to build a Sandstorm team centered around Regirock. Anyone have some advice for who I should put in?

help me start

For Regi's moveset, I'm thinking Drain Punch, Curse, Stone Edge/Rock Slide, and maybe a utility move (Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock, etc.). I also know that I'll need either Tyranitar or Hippowdon for their Sand Stream, but I'm not sure who to put in the last 4 slots.

Gonna need to give us the format that you want to play in.

Sorry, I should have specified. OU is probably the one I'll go for, mostly because it's where both Sandstream users reside. Although, the abundance of physical attackers with fighting moves scares me. I might also go for doubles, if I can.

Doubles UU/NU should have one or both of the sandstream users, and are both very fun metagames. I've seen Regirock put in a lot of work on Trick Room Sand in particular, though I personally prefer Gigalith.

Try building a NU Sandstorm team with Hippopotas, Stoutland, Regirock and 3 mons to support those guys.

Hippopotas appreciates a Water/Grass resist with good SpD to alleviate his low SpD.

Stoutland is a great wallbreaker and sweeper with Sand Rush. He needs some team support though to break through Steel and Rock types that prevent him from spamming Return. Sandslash is a great partner that can also abuse Sand Rush.

Regirock is a great utility mon, but you could also go offensive with Curse and Rest.

As for team partners you could try Poliwrath, which can absorb Water moves and can run a Special set to break through the common Physically Defensive Steel and Rock types.

I must say though I haven't played NU in a while, but I think most of the information is still relevant.

Hope I've been of help.

Uh, can't speak to its OU viability, but curse Regirock has been used some success in NU, with the following moveset:

Regirock @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature

  • Curse
  • Rock Slide
  • Rest
  • Sleep Talk

That said, I feel it could have issues in OU, as they have very solid ways to break it, and you only get 7 turns, at max, of sandstorm to abuse that sweet spdef boost.

The set I linked basically aims to use Rock slide as a move with good enough power, and very high PP to allow it to set up, and gradually wear through your opponent's team. Again, you will have major issues trying to use regirock in OU, due to its lack of meaningful recovery, and the high power level there (ex. no matter your set, keldeo still runs through it), so I can't exactly recommend it.

If you want to use it in ou dont. Its awful. If youre using it in lower tiers it can be used with hippotas. Tell us the format though

I think that you will need some support with a Pokemon able to take special attack hits. Regirock's defense is great, but its special defense is really lacking. One hit by an Ice Beam or Scald by any formidable opponent and it will be down.

If you really want to go OU, Mega-Garchomp and Excadrill both have sandforce.

If you're running curse maybe try a trickroom sandstorm team?

Hey, I also run a standstorm team and have been doing really well with this in OU. This guy is probably the best performer on my team.

Darude @ WubWub

Ability: Bass Drop

EVs: 252 Dance/ 4 Fame / 252 Clubsluts

Meme Nature

  • Burning

  • Feel the Beat

  • Out of Control

  • Touch Me Feel Me

It's alright, but at 1600+ on the ladder, you're going to be seeing the Actually-Funny-Jokes core that completely invalidates that mon.
