My KENP totally just got fixed! Check your pages!

NSFW

Hey everyone! I don't know if this will happen for everyone, but I just checked my KDP page against my own personal record keeping and found LOTS of changes, and so far all for the better! Many of my daily KENP counts for September have gone up. Not by massive huge numbers, but they're going up!

Check yours, maybe they are too!

I wasn't even 100% sure I had been affected. I just thought my recent titles were bombing a bit.

Wow...mine too. I did not keep track of exact numbers, but I know certain days were below 1000 and now are above. I did sent them an email, but I never heard back...Anyway...for those who read my 30-day report...I did get my $100 goal :)

Great job!

My numbers are with u/ides. I have 7% more KENP now than my screen shot from the end of September. Not party throwing money, but maybe they're getting a handle on things -- and maybe not.

Mine went up by about 2.5%. Looks like they only adjusted my two titles that were released in September.

How did they adjust them and how did you know? I've noticed that mine have gone up over the past day or two, but am I missing something specific here? I received a vague email from KDP as well.

A lot of people use Book Report.

I downloaded reports from the kdp dash as soon as I knew it was a problem. Selected all the page reads for September + autosum. Compared a new september report to an old september report.

Mine went up about 6%. I had contacted them via email and even had a phone call with them today, though all of that resulted in a "we're looking into it and we'll get back to you," not a "yes, things are definitely broken and we're fixing them."

But I'm really glad to see people's numbers are going up across the board. That's awesome!

How did you notice the 6%? Do you mean that your overall numbers for the day went up by about 6%? I'm confused.

1
daffodillimecunning linguist•

Sorry, I should have been clearer. My overall page reads for the month went up by 6%. I totaled the new number of page reads I had for Sept and compared it to the old number I had (I'd downloaded my book report data on 9/30 so I had it for reference.). Then I just took the difference and figured out what percentage that would be for Sept.

I don't know about a difference for this month, but I had about 1K reads added to September's numbers.

I did not contact amazon, nor have I done any data analysis, because I figured with a small smut catalog, I wouldn't really have been affected by this.

Hey, just crunched the full numbers. A few discoveries:

  1. I gained about 8% total KENP for the month of September.
  2. There were some days where there was no change. Some days where it was miniscule (less than 50 KENP) and some where it was more substantial (a few hundred KENP).
  3. I only had records for October 1-3, but 2 of those days went up as well.

ETA: I also want to add that it may be possible that these numbers, while changed, are not necessarily fully fixed. They could go up more! Who knows?

Mine have gone up too. I didn't think I'd been affected, because I only had one day with ZERO KENP reads. And I don't know the specifics, but I'm up about $15 overall...

2
writer005•

How did you notice they had gone up? Do you keep track of each day's page reads?

1
nikkykayeAbstains From User Flair•

Two ways. I had one day with ZERO KENP reads, and suddenly that had 240 pages on it. So that was a good barometer. Then I did a custom book report for the same 30 days that I posted recently, and the amount was higher (even though I had DECREASED my KENP page rate).

Not much change in mine, except I have 400 extra pages on Oct 2nd.

I had 4 sales on Oct 1, 2 of which are not reflected on my month-to-date unit sales page.... should I be worried? Is it too early to contact them about this discrepancy?

ETA: I did contact amazon and received a "numbers are accurate" response

did you contact Amazon through email or phone or neither?

I had not contacted them, as I didn't think I was affected.

I contacted them and received this:

Thanks for your inquiry. We looked into the concerns you expressed along with those of other authors in response to inquiries about KENPC reporting. I have pasted our latest forum post on the subject below:

“We have completed our monthly audit of September pages-read data. We regularly monitor pages-read systems for accuracy with a particular focus on making sure we have correctly filtered out fraudulent reading activity, while including all legitimate customer behavior. Total audit adjustments for the month were an increase of roughly 2% of pages read (though the amount will vary from author to author). We are currently updating reports and changes should be visible within the next day.

We expect the September fund to increase again compared to August and will release the new figure by mid-month as usual.

Thanks for the recent questions from some authors about how Page Flip is being used by customers and its possible impact to pages read. Page Flip is designed to make it easy to explore and navigate in books while automatically saving your place, and that is how customers are using it. We checked for effects on pages read before launching Page Flip, and investigated it again to re-confirm that there is no impact. We do not see any material reading volume happening within this feature, but we will continue to monitor it closely.”

I don't believe I was ever affected by this issue, though I had 3 months of posting no new books. If anything, I got a giant spike on the 29th.

Purrsalot•

Hey- I just saw a slight increase. Guess it affected everyone.

Didn't get any new page reads, but a serial returner got nailed, so that's nice.

1
ides205OPFakin' it till I'm makin' it•

Ooh, how did you find out about that?

2
lizzieelmwritesThat romantic scene? It's about boning.•

It's an assumption, not a fact, but it's happened to me before. Someone bought and returned a copy, so the money was taken back. The next day, I had the money again. The last time, it happened with someone who bought my entire catalogue.

writer005•

I'd also like to know how you found out about this.

So glad I did my 30 day report. Even my sales were off! I ended up with about $43 more than what it has now been adjusted to.
