Thinking about getting a HTC10

I'm currently using my super old Xperia Z1 and I'm in major need of an upgrade, after looking at 100's of phones and reviews I think I'm ready to commit to a HTC10. I was wondering if any of you have the Camellia Red version as I want to get it but can't seem to find a "real person" picture and don't know if it looks good without the "magic of advertising". If any of you have real pictures of the Camellia Red version that you could share it would be really helpful.

I'm picking the HTC10 for its flagship specs and the high quality audio as I use my phone for music every day, both with speaker and headphones. However I also enjoy taking pictures with my phone on my travels and have heard that the camera can be lacking sometimes, some people have said this has been fixed in recent updates, can anyone confirm/deny this?

I'm also wondering what comes in the box as I've seen mostly press release (I think?) reviews which obviously I wont be buying haha.

Final thing, currently there's a 15% discount on it in the UK meaning instead of £569 its £485, should I buy it now or will there be better deals coming up with Black Friday or something like that.

Here you go OP, hopefully this helps. Just ignore the sticker on the bottom...I've been too lazy to take it off since I got it this weekend

No problem. It looks really good in person and I'm super glad I got this over black (which was what I originally was going to get). Hopefully it comes back in stock!

Where did you get the red model from? The htc website says it's coming soon.

Apparently it comes in and out. I'm waiting to get that one too, I hope it gets restocked soon.

This. Last week it was in stock for maybe 2 days? It was available this second go round but went out of stock pretty quick again

I know, I check it probably 10 times a day, which is probably overkill. I just want the red one before the sale ends.

I say go for it, as it's a great phone. I upgraded to a note 7, but with all the recall stuff I wish I could go back, although I can't because T-Mobile. The HTC 10 is still the best phone I've ever felt in my hands, it's also really fast, has amazing battery life, charges super fast, the DAC makes it sound like night and day compared to my note 7. The only complaints that I had were the lack of waterproofing and the goofy polarized sunglasses thing. The camera was really good, although I found the shortcut to be a bit annoying compared to samsung. Also the last thing is that the fingerprint scanner on that phone was ridiculously fast. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the red as I had the silver.

Man, thank you! You just confirmed for me that I made a good decision picking up the 10 over the note 7. Well I mean the explosion issues didn't help, but I really wanted that phone haha.

I can confirm the DAC makes a huge difference coming from an M8. The M8 had superior speakers, but the headphone audio quality out of the 10 is incredible. Especially in my car, I used to bounce between using the six input and Bluetooth all the time based on how long I'd be in the car for, but now I have to use the six. The output is just that good.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I still prefer the note 7 over the 10 as it's damn near everything that I have ever wanted from a phone, but the sound quality and charge speed difference is night and day. One thing for sure is that you didn't pick the phone that has a chance of blowing up.

That's what I keep telling myself. I'll still be watching for the next Samsung phablet haha.

OK, cheers, just wondering, what came with it in the box?

I had the US variant and all that I got was the 3 amp charger, type c cable and sim removal tool. I'm pretty sure that the international models got the really nice headphones.

Get it. Had it for a week now, by far the best cell phone I've ever had! Great battery, insane fast charging, super fast UI, wonderful screen.

The only flaw I've found with it is polarized sunglasses don't work with it in portrait mode... In landscape it is great, Im wondering if it wasn't designed that way to use horizontally with GPS in car though. But that's it!

ChilliPCOP•

What do you mean it doesn't work? Like can't see the screen?

1
oboboy14•

Polarized lenses work weirdly with some screens. My OnePlus X is the same. When holding the phone in portrait, sometimes I can't see the screen at all, or very dimly.

Polarized lenses block light from all LCD screens. Whether it is portrait or landscape depends on the phone manufacturer, but this is not a downside of the HTC 10.

If you get a HTC 10 with one of the Sharp panel's (like I did) then you CAN see with polarised sunglasses on

1
jakemoroni•

Is the Sharp panel on a newer revision of the phone or something?

1
enadhof•

No, It's just the luck of the draw. Some HTC 10's come with the Tianma screen and others the Sharp. I notice reading forums etc that Sharp panel's are less common in the US. In Australia I estimate 30-40% are Sharp screens

The HTC 10 is a good choice, easily the best phone I've had. Just a great experience overall.

I upgraded to the 10 about a month ago from a Sony Xperia Z1. I would really recommend, one of the best decisions I've made!

I just got mine for £485.00 .. Absolutely fantastic device. Love everything about it. Perfect size, looks great, decent software, great camera and incredible audio through headphones. It's the first phone I've had that doesn't seem to have any major compromise unless you count it not being waterproof.

1
gilboman•

at this point..why wouldn't you just get a pixel?

ChilliPCOP•

£485 vs £600? If you want to buy me one I won't protest.

1
verballyabusivedog•

Better DAC, speakers, expandable storage, cheaper and though subjective I know, the 10 is much better looking.

kol13190•

Don't. Get the Axon 7 if you can.

For the people down voting me, give me a good unbiased opinion on both phones.

-6
ChilliPCOP•

Any reasoning to that? I've looked at so many phones and even though the Axon 7 has the specs and the low price tag, so so so soooo many people complain about the software and company, I was more looking at the OP3 as opposed to the Axon 7 as the OP3 is available from a big name company in my country. I was also looking at the Moto Z Play as I've heard its good and is over £100 cheaper than the HTC but I can't see myself using the Moto Mods.

Chewbaccas_NorelcoHTC One (M8)•

Don't get the Axon 7. It's nice but I don't think the build quality is the best. My volume rocker was messed up out of the box and I had to return it and get a refund because they had no replacement units. Sou d quality is very very nice but the camera was too poor in low light. Frankly I wouldn't trust ZTE with updates at all.

4
kol13190•

Well the software is mixed reviews and i can agree to that. I recommended it based on many good specs and cheaper price tag. The OP3 is without a doubt a great phone despite some minor hiccups, it's actually very very good. I recommend it over HTC just due to some minor issues HTC has as well, but it's personal opinion not like catastrophic note 7 status.
